This Recession, It's Just Beginning

I know there is no comfort in this, but traveling to Europe, especially France, it seems they are experiencing their own recession. Unemployment has always been high there, but even with a strong Euro businesses are failing left and right. Prices have risen above what the average European can afford, stores that only held sales bianually are coming up with new ones every week. It's not just us folks. Their saving grace is that most live near where they work and their per capita fuel consumption is much lower than ours. Their food is grown closer to home also, so they have more choices on where they spend their grocery money. They also tend to eat with the seasons which does not create a demand for foods from other areas.
The only area that seems to be spared because there economy depends on one thing alone, are the oil producing nations, especially in the middle east.
We are supporting the OPEC economies...how may of you are still driving that SUV? We went from people who lived happily in a 3 BR 2 BA house to 4500 square foot Mcmansions! Think about the energy we are wasting there! Does anyone remember the 70's? We pay our farmers to not farm their fields, yet we have people dying from Mexican tomatoes. We don't want to pay a higher price for our produce, yet we can complain when Central American workers come over to work at jobs Americans won't touch!
Every American feels it is their God given right to fly everywhere, but who should pay for it? Should we hire illegal immigrants to work the airplanes also?
I know I have been guilty of many of these things.
We the American people are just as much to blame for what is going on in our country as are the politicians and policy makers in Washington. We want it fast easy and cheap. America we need to wake up!
