Larry and Curly have missed you.
Paying for a few classes? The reimbursement is $1,000 per calendar year. Even beauty academy is more than that for a few courses. Tuition at the State school level is over $400 a credit. Most courses are 3 credits. The reimbursement doesn't help pay for 1 course at an acredited school for the year.
I think the company just wants to know whose in school so they can track the employee for "lost time" when folks have to take exams, finals etc...
The IRS does NOT take taxes for this. I have had it done the last 2 years, and taxes were not deducted.Don't forget that the IRS deduct taxes from this benefit. So, when you put in for your $1000 reimbursement, you'll actually get less after the Fed and state(if applicable) get their cut.
But you forget--unions think the employees have a right to miss work for exams, hair appts, etc.PitBull - - - GO AWAY! This type of negative attitude is why unions have such trouble with management.
Is this a contractual benefit? No. Will anybody get a free-ride education on $1000? No. Is the company making an attempt to connect with the employee groups and help them get an education? Yes!
As for "lost time" for exams, etc. If an employee calls in sick to go to class or take an exam, should they be disciplined? Yes. The intent of this benefit is not to give people an excuse to call in sick, but to better themselves.
Actually Bulldog - I'm one of the rank-and-file, who paid your salary via my dues. And yes, I took advantage this benefit back when US Airways offered it before. Now I have a nice little certificate that says "MBA".Hey lcc,
Thanks for the management schpell.
This is why folks shouldn't bother with the alleged benefit...
The company should put the funds in the form of pay raises; like they gave the execs! B)
Save your breath (in fact hold it); my stripes to change.

There is way too much negativity all around. Take the ADDITIONAL benefit and run.....or go to class with it. 🙄 This benefit was taken away with the union contracts in the past so..........be glad it's offered.Pity - you never cease to amaze me. I will gladly accept the 1000.00 towards the classes I want to take, versus paying the full amount myself.
Why can't you ever look at something as positive? That is 1000.00 more then we had before.
I'd love to have some funds go towards pay raises: such as the money used to pay for some of the work rules (notice I said some, not all) or crew meals negotiated into union contracts.Hey lcc,

i am part time and would love the opportunity to use this benefit....I'd love to have some funds go towards pay raises: such as the money used to pay for some of the work rules (notice I said some, not all) or crew meals negotiated into union contracts.
I would assume classes have to be taken at an accredited institution. But ..many community colleges probably offer such classes as well. You can probably even do these type of classes online. I actually took a class called "Advanced Computer Systems" at Embry-Riddle--it covered powerpoint, excel, and access.RJH -
Do you know if you took classes for things like PowerPoint and Excel if they would qualify for tuition reimbursement? I know Comp USA used to offer 1-2 day classes on Windows products and other office type products. These are usually about 100.00 per class. (at least that is what I remember).
Things may be changing if you have someone from EAST HR taking over.......I hope not tho...EAST management, in the past, has always been able to creatively interpret policies to the detriment of the employeeI would assume classes have to be taken at an accredited institution. The person at "West" HR told me an official announcement will be out soon. Someone at East HR is taking over administering the program, and she is training him on it this week.
