What's new

tulsa election result

I for one have seen Sam in action. The Tulsa e-boarders have thrown all their dirty work at em in the past. Last year, when I had a problem, I was sent to Sam. The other e-boarders were "too busy". When I entered his office I seen his desk piled with papers and folders. He said it was all the senior e-boarders crap that they threw on his desk for him to take care of because they were too lazy to do it themselves. If the past speaks any truth then we know past "A&P" presidents haven't done nothing for us for many years now. I say give Sam a chance. We need a change and maybe he's the one to do it. Now if we could rid ourselves of Jim Little and all those past e-board morons who got re-elected. Can you believe Birdchit was on the ballots again?
NOTE: The above A&P statement was not meant to condone my fellow A&P's. We just need a little shake-up in this worthless so-called union.

How can Tulsans acquire 562 shirts? That would shake 514 up 😉

As a FSC clerk in TULE I wanted to see what the feeling was on this board about the recent election. I knew this was going to stir some people up. I have known Sam for several years. He is sharp guy, very qualified and competent to lead 514. Give the guy a chance and get to know him before rushing to judgement. As a 22 year employee with over 15 here at TULE I have seen what the majority has elected in the past. Nothing to brag about. WE are in much worse position today than ever before. It is due to many things not just who is at the helm of the local. WE have become divided over the years. WE have let the company take and take while WE turn on each other. WE are to blame for not being able to stand together in concert to send our message. So if WE continue down this road of seperation WE all lose!! I have been in Title I, III, and IV over the years and made many friends along the way. I owe Sam a congrats and a apology. I told him I thought there was no chance in hell that Title I would vote in a FSC to lead the local. I mean there are only 80 or so of us at TULE. He never waivered and stayed the course with just old fashioned hand shakes and getting in front of the people. He pulled off the unbelievable. I believe that shows alot about the man and his character. So weather he holds a A&P or not, I hope that WE can stand together to pull off the unbelievable comeback.

I find it funny how some A&P mechanics are so elitist. You know you can have a license at something and still not be any good at it. I mean learning about things in school is one thing, applying it in the real world is another. Its like people that get straight A's taking a class but when it comes down to doing the task they can't put any practical application to what they learned. In short, I am sure many of you have met VERY incompetent mechanics or are yourself possibly very incompetent (though I like to think overall AA mechanics have alot of skill and talant).

Also, I will have you know there are several people in Fleet Service in Tulsa right now with A&P's. Some of them have or have had other very technical licenses. That license that you went to school for 2 years for does not impress someone in Fleet Service with a 2 or 4 year college degree I assure you. And outside of aircraft your license is worth nothing, a college degree is. There are more A&P's out there than there are jobs. Maybee you should think about that when you look down your nose at your coworkers. Do not think that your not expendable. What the company wants to do is have 1 licensed mechanic signing off work for a bunch of unlicensed ones. What would make you think that mechanics at the bases would want that??? After all there alot more vulnerable to that situation then a line mechanic.

Im very offended that you don't think ANY Fleet Service clerk could represent 514 (especially since some of them have an A&P and are aspireing to be a mechanic some day). What does having an A&P have to do with being a union head. You have a chairman after all. And mechanics are the majority at the base. Why would someone in his postion want to alienate the majority. I think some of you have had AMFA puffing your ego too long. Geesh.......

Just like any profession there are the 10% that are not very good at their job. It has been my experience at ORD when the mechs were part of local 512 that they were not represented all that well. Over the years with the local 563 life for the mechs has gotten better with our guys looking out for us. But that is ORD I can only assume that all the other maintenance locals feel the same way, sense they have not gone back to the FSC locals. As far as being replaceable, I think NWA has proven that we are all replaceable. As far as education goes, having a 4 year degree in accounting doesn't mean much when you're throwing bags for a living. It's what you do with your education, is what counts.

There is a reason why the pilots and FA have their own union's, it's also the reason why they are the highest paid and work the least of any other airline. Nobody is looking down their noses at the FSC's we just want what's best for us. This is not a socialist nation where we all should make the same amount no matter what we do. You want to make more money, put your education to work, instead of resting on your laurels expecting someone to give you something.

The reason why Pilots and some FAs have their own union is class and craft.

And the IBT, IAM, TWU, CWA-AFA all represent FAs, and the IBT even have pilots too.

As a AMT in Austin I say well said sir. This guy can't be any worse than the guys before him. People need to quit falling into the "divide and conquer " trap and see who the real enemy is.

Excuse me. Resting on my laurels? Give us something? You act as if we don't work for a living. You ever met ANYBODY off the line with 20 years that has not had a work related operation (back surgery, knee surgery, shoulder surgery)? I guess these people deserve minimum wage for tearing thier bodies up right? I don't expect to be "given" anything, I do expect a fair livable wage. We invest ourselves in this company just like anyone else (time, concessions, health). Do I want more money? You bet I do. Thats not a raise, thats equalization of living standard. Cost of living has gone up, wages have not even kept up with inflation much less included any kind of "raise" for 20 years.

My doubts about having a fsc run local 514 have nothing to do about elitism, or education. It's common sense, the guy is NOT title one. Is he above the fray? Able to put aside all self interest for the sake of righteousness towards the improvement of pay and benefits for AMTs? BTW, I got the same argument from the dispatchers years ago - when I questioned why their group makes what they do for taking a 12 week course. There was BS reasons "many of us have degrees etc.." When it comes down to it though, the degree was never a requirement for the job.

I have been in fleet service locals as an AMT at DFW & ORD, so I know what its like. Maybe I'm a little jaded. Honestly, once maintenance got their own locals things got a little better. I suppose some feel CHANGE would be nice; however, we've heard that before and look what it got us.

The ability to run a local lodge has nothing to do with one's classification.

The M&R reps administer the CBA, not the President of the local.

Hey Duke, You missed the point. I am not expecting anyone to give me anything that I havent earned. The company that I have commited myself to being dependable, responsible, doing my job. And I expect the same when it comes to honoring their end of the deal. You see the difference with us is I want you to earn more, and provide the best for your family. But you dont want me to earn more for my family. Nobody is riding on your back like you want to think.

I wish all FSC's the best and I know they work hard, especially in the summer in the belly's. I just don't want a FSC as the president of a majority of the mechanics. I know there are a lot of highly educated FSC's out there, but don't throw that in our face and belittle our education.

Thanks.

Bob I used to like your insight but your rants are getting old you are in dream land wake up or do something magical. Your messiah Obama isnt what you thought he would be and never will be, retire, move on, or shut it. ANd my screen name was a joke when i made it but we have been beat accept it and move on. You presidents brought this ta back for a vote so why hate on us that will vote yes and move on to retirement. I just want to finish at this point not finish strong

And acceptance is the answer to all my problems
today. When I am disturbed, it is because I find some
person, place, thing, or situation—some fact of my life
—unacceptable to me, and I can find no serenity until
I accept that person, place, thing, or situation as being
exactly the way it is supposed to be at this moment.
Nothing, absolutely nothing, happens in God’s world
by mistake.

rest on (one's) laurels
To rely on one's past achievements instead of working to maintain or advance one's status or reputation

Like going ot college and not using your education.
