I do not agree with the convention being held in Las Vegas. There are too many distractions for such an important conference to the members.

Distractions are going to exist just about anywhere, but Vegas is really undersold right now -- hotels are pretty much giving away meeting space and/or comping a lot of room-nights just to get some occupancy.

If you can save some money, why not do so? Beats the hell out of having it somewhere like Des Moines which will be difficult to get to, or a high-cost area like NYC where you're going to have a different set of distractions....

That makes no sense to me, I am sure if you thought a little harder you could come up with a better place than Las Vegas or New York. Why not hold the convention in Tulsa OK? there are better bargains than Las Vegas, little to no distractions, and we could get the brady theatre cheap.

TUL would be good, but that would imply that people from the base could observe/participate, and you wouldn't want an open convention, now would you?...

But there are still distractions there -- the Cherokees built a pretty nice casino in Catoosa from what I hear (it was still under construction last time I drove thru).

Chuck, Your are not looking at the Convention correctly. It is not for the memberships benefit, never has been. Everyone attending is supposed to party like rock stars on the memberships dime and in between hold some dog and pony show meetings with nay or yeah votes that will have no accountability. Possibly picket some casino for photo opps. The Internationals adjenda will overwhelmingy pass, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas baby!!
