U.S. Airways tanks across the pond

Okay, he was indeed taken from the job of CEO and president. But he's still Chairman.

These posts make it sound like he's mailing out resumes, applying for food stamps and standing in line at the unemployment office.

Chairman is still the top corporate position.

I'd submit that being the non-executive Chairman of a board that removed you as CEO is roughly equivalent to that proverbial pitcher of warm spit.

Regarding "job protections" what about the 900 folks that were terminated from Crystal City? HP guys would come in on a Tuesday morning around 9AM and tell people they have until noon to decide to move to PHX or pack up and leave.

In fact, one VP couldn't get into LotusNotes or voicemail. She couldn't figure out why. called help desk, they didn't know. Someone in the office then tried to e-mail her and it didn't go thru, so she called and found out that she had been terminated and they forgot to tell her.

At least the PHX SOC guys have a lot of time to consider everything. They're the luckiest work group around as they at least know it will be PIT or another department @ CHQ.

Which is a hellofa lot better than my friends.... so when Parker said he did this to "preserve jobs" I think he was talking to his West employees....

There was something similar that happened when I was in Consumer Affairs when they started getting rid of people in 2002. If someone tried to log into Lotus Notes or Sabre and couldn't, the next thing they knew was, "bye-bye baby, baby bye-bye!"
