UA AND US Merger Talks

The FAs were stapled by the APFA and almost none still work for AA. Pilots were slotted and a few still work for AA. Mechanics had an arbitration (Kasher) and were given protection at some stations.

The federal anti-stapling law was enacted precisely because of the stapling of the TWA employees by the AA unions. Won't (can't) happen again.

I have to mention that this bill was spearheaded by the former TWA f/a's in the hopes that what the APFA did to us would'nt be done to someone else. I think there are 26 former TWA flight attendants currently working for AA.

If what you say is true, then those ex-TWAers are heroes. What happened to them should never happen to any work group. And if their last hurrah was to successfully fight for legislation that imposes some decency and fairness to future seniority integration, then they heroically punctuated their long and illustrious legacy by standing up for what is right. What class act!

Au contraire, esteemed one. Where have you been the last five years? At the end of the day pesky arbitrators matter not, but only the will of the majority is controlling.

I read a lot of claims to that effect, but haven't been convinced yet... 😀

i think in the event of a merger , the best way to put aside dissent and not make the mistakes of prior mergers is to simply do DOH for every unionized work group ... it's fair , it's fast , it's effective ...

You got one right - it's fast. Fair and effective depends on whose ox is gored by DOH.

Jim

It's obvious there is going to be some thread drift with a topic as big as this, but please lets try to contain the discussion to the possible UA-US merger as much as possible. Thanks.

Heeeeeeeeeere we go again!! I think US and UA have nothing better to do than rock the boat. Don't fall for this again people!!!

both airlines have been around for a long long time ...

everyone's gonna get hurt equally , that's the best we can hope for ..

David Faber said on NBC Nightly News tonight that it was likely Doug Paker and the US Airways management team would run the combined carrier. Dear lord, help us all.

Can someone explain to me why god's name this man is still entrusted with USAir and why someone thinks it will be a good idea for him to run an airline as complicated as United?

Do you think that the discerning United Airlines Mileage Plus frequent flyer will be receptive to plastic party cups in First Class?

Do you think that the discerning United Airlines Mileage Plus frequent flyer will be receptive to closets being ripped out of aircraft cabins?

Do you think that the discerning United Airlines Mileage Plus frequent flyer will be receptive to a snack basket being served on a flight that is three hours and twenty-five minutes in duration?

Do you think that the discerning United Airlines Mileage Plus frequent flyer will be receptive to the inconsistencies of SHARES?

Do you think that the discerning United Airlines Mileage Plus frequent flyer will be receptive to First Class cabins being replaced with Business Class cabins on all international aircraft?

Do you think that the discerning United Airlines Mileage Plus frequent flyer will be receptive to First Class domestic cabin capacities being slashed by almost half?

Do you think that the discerning United Airlines Mileage Plus frequent flyer will be receptive to an airline that does not have any regard to customer satisfaction - especially with it's most loyal of customers?

Do you think that the discerning United Airlines Mileage Plus frequent flyer will be receptive to the removal of all IFE from the domestic fleet?

Do you think that the discerning United Airlines Mileage Plus frequent flyer will be receptive to Economy Plus seating being replaced with DVT Class seating in order for the CEO to maximize revenue?

Those are just a few items that I could think of from recent memory. Please feel free to add more if you wish.

LOTS of fences in the future:

From the AFA-CWA:

AFA Seniority Protections
We will utilize all of the tools that we have as AFA Members to vigorously defend the seniority of United Airlines Flight Attendants. In addition to our industry-leading AFA seniority merger policy and the protections AFA was able to achieve this past year under the law, there are means to protect seniority and maintain job security. During the course of Contract negotiations related to a merger, we can fight for fenced operations, buyouts from the combined group, and we have an industry-leading policy for merging seniority rights, along with Contractual furlough protections.

AFA-CWA

Also should be noted, United has NO flight attendants on involuntary furlough. It is a complete VOLUNTARY furlough. So, everyone comes back before the lists merge.

Good luck to all of us: Two complete crappy, senior work forces working for two completely crappy airlines trying to merge and compete. I'll believe it when I see it.

It might be messy, but it does two things, it keeps market share from going to OneWorld and AMR. If UAL and US merger it locks CAL and US in STAR pretty much, leaving AMR out. IF CAL and UAL merged, US would quickly hookup with AMR. this will all be very interesting.
It appears this whole thing is a ploy to get CAL tot he table. US brings nothing to the table for UAL or AMR that they don't already have.

With reference to the above UAL 'discerning' FF, according to DP, its the price of the ticket. period.

Calm down oh "discerning" ONE. This thing is a long ways from completion if it ever is consummated. So enjoy your GLASS of wine, your non-DVT seating, and, if you're a closet case enjoy having a place to hide your coat and all of those other lovely amenities that you're lamenting losing in this merger if it happens. If it does happen, the sky will remain blue, the sun will stay hot and I'll still love Gladys Knight till the day I die.
