UA AND US Merger Talks

WHY.....would we ever think this could happen.

After HOW MANY YEARS????? USAirways and America West cant even get the contracts to work together?

Too Many Union Issues to even think something like this could work!

I have read MY contract. My contract is not the same as your contract. Not yet at least. I can only hope that it becomes our contract before this goes through.
I know your contract is very very vaig... but you have a contract and it is AFA.... so covered under AFA's merger policies... AWA cant even figure out what a hostage clause is.... but AFA can.... if you have read the other posts after ours, apparantly Congress helped w/ the AA / TWA merger..... Which I was not aware of.... so just as I said before.... sit back .... relax and enjoy the ride.... there will be a few bumps in the road, that is for sure. ..... continue to move on..... it will all work out....

good luck.... hope you are on the next recall list....!

Just to clarify, Congress passed legislation as a result of the AA/TWA merger, so it didn't help anyone in that merger. It does provide a framework for deciding future employee integration if either different unions represent the equivalent employees on the two sides or one side is not represented.

Well 767, I am not particularly keen of the idea of a US - UAL merger, ESPECIALLY with Doug at the reins, but this is pretty common language in regards to talks of merger, this is what is said nearly every time by every work group. In agreeance with you, I do not believe the UAL pilots will be an easy bunch to work with. MGMT, will have to pass a sweet pot to the pilots of all airlines, UA/US/HP to get this baby through, and quite frankly, i dont see it happening. Then on the other hand, US could say, well this is a last option for us, its this, or we can fragment the company, and vice versa. F/A's are easy , we are all AFA, DOH....... IMHO, this could a chance at dismantling much of the US route system once merged and keeping CLT and a downsized PHL, then continuing a merger with CAL, basically taking out US in the grand scheme of things. This would do 2 things, give MAJOR NE and South prescence, as well as ORD, SFO, LAX, EWR, DCA, DEN, IAH, ASIA, EUROPE, AFRICA, S. AMERICA.., MID EAST.. This IMHO, is just a step of the bigger plan, CAL cant stand alone if UA and US merge, and they basically cant merge with AA, this would leave AA with JBLU, if and i doubt it would, ever happen.. I just hope whatever happens they offer good buyouts.
You do have a point that it could possibly be a first step in dismantling US in preparation of part 2 which would be the end goal of a merger with CO. (I personally do not hope that's the case for our sake and for the sake of US employees) Or it could just be ploy to get CO to the table.

But as I said, our MEC has gone public with the statement that no meaningful merger talks are underway with US. And this is where I disagree with you. Since the Master Chairman holds a seat on the board of directors, you are correct in thinking that he or she could not divulge any information with regard to a merger if one was actually being talked about in the board room. However, the Master Chairman can certainly say what is not being talked about. You can't get in legal hot water for talking about something that is not happening. So when they come out with "no comment," or worse... say nothing at all, that's when I get worried.

The fact is that our MEC has a proven track record of being VERY careful of what they say publicly, and rarely even make public statements like the one I posted. When they do, they have historically been 100% accurate. Thet were very specific in saying that the story has been confirmed as being speculative. So believe who and what you want. I for one will check back in about a month. But for those hoping for a UA/USmerger, I wouldn't hold my breath. It just doesn't make sense.

I Tilton runs the show then were all gone. He is a monster that has no room for unions or any other employee. He will
shrink or ruin any airline he runs. After all he got in the BK he still can't show a profit.

He cannot possibly be worse than Doug and Scooter.

Here's some more communication from the MEC:

“Media reports of United Airlines and US Airways being ‘deep in merger discussions’ has caused a great deal of consternation among the pilots I represent.

“United pilots share the view of many industry analysts and experts that a United merger with US Airways is unlikely to achieve significant synergies. In addition, the considerable legal hurdles to such a combination will only serve to distract United’s management team from solving its own pressing issues.

“The pilots of US Airways and America West have yet to achieve operational integration more than four and a half years after the airlines merged. US Airways pilots face years of litigation as they attempt to work through their operational integration difficulties with America West pilots. United pilots certainly would not benefit by being drawn into that situation.

“Our position on mergers is well known. We are not opposed to any merger that would benefit the careers and the long-term future of United pilots. A merger with US Airways does not appear to come close to meeting that standard. We vehemently oppose any merger that would not lead to a strong and viable United Airlines.

“United CEO Glenn Tilton is well aware of our position regarding mergers and US Airways.

“The pilots of United Airlines stand ready to work with United management on a merger if such a merger would protect and advance our careers. We will not, however, accept any proposal that places the future of the United enterprise – and the future of our pilots – in harm’s way.”

I must admit that it is interesting to follow all of the posts on this topic, but we all know that this transaction will never happen. UA wants to get Continental back at the table and it seems to be working.

From today's US Daily:

Yesterday, the New York Times ran a story stating US Airways and United are in merger talks. That story sparked speculation and generated a lot of media buzz. As a US Airways employee we imagine that you’re also following this story and we wanted to reach out to let you know that, as is the case with all rumors and speculation about consolidation, we simply can’t comment. The best focus for all employees is to simply continue doing our jobs to run a great airline.

From today's US Daily:..

Based on 767Jetz line of thinking, which I agree with, wouldn't US Airways management say "nothing is happening" if nothing was happening?

Can Doug be stupid enough to let Tilton bamboozle him long enough for UA-CO? Frankly I don't think he is that stupid. So where does that leave this mess?

Given what he has said so many times in the past, a "no comment" generally means something is going on.
