I'll have to try and dig it up. From what I recall, it has to do with who they count as being out of work, how long they have been out of work.. etc. It has been a while since I saw it but I'll look for it again.

It used to be that once you were out of a job for 6 months you weren't counted in the "workforce" totals so you aren't reflected as being "unemployed". I haven't heard of this one changing as it is a basic econmic measure.

That's incorrect. A person is unemployed if he has searched for a job in the past week but hasn't worked. People can be unemployed longer than 6 months.

When someone is no longer collecting unemployment insurance, they can no longer be directly counted. The amount of people not employed and not collecting unemployment ins and looking for work is estimated, and not very well.

It's all acedemic anyway. People don't vote based on THE economy, they vote based on THIER economy. You can lie and spin all you want about a lot of things, but you cant rig the numbers on joe workers paycheck.

That qualifies you for an unemplpoyment check...for 6 months...but you are absolutely incorrect about the unemployment economic figures. Once out of the workforce for 6 months (even if you are looking), you are not counted as "employable" therefore do not count in either the numerator nor the denominator of the unemployment equation.
