United Usair MERGE

forgot to mention talk to the folks at AA and believe me in their eyes UA is an abortion. You two have always been pit aganist each other and atleast the folks at AA are proud of never having to file BK like UA did. they have continued to make money while UA participated in the LONGEST BK in the history of America. WHO HAS ISSUES and PROBLEMS? HMMmm those in glass houses!!! :lol:

Hello everyone,

Well I am finally getting adjusted to the time change over here
in Europe now. But before that happened I have the time of HELL
getting over here. It was not a pleasant one at all.

I left my house around 4pm EST to head to the airport. Well my flight
out of DCA was all fine and I had to connect in Philadelphia then again the next
day to Madrid to continue onto Barcelona. Everything out of DC went
fine. I got to Philadelphia and everything seemed to be just fine. I was on
the phone talking with friends ect, ect.

I did not get my upgrade in business like I had hoped so I was all settled in
in my seat in coach class (this is a rare one for me to be in coach.) We take
off about 9pm.

About 1 hour into the flight I had fallen asleep. Then the 2nd hour into the flight
I had to get up to use the rest room. Well I noticed that the toilet was not
flushing. I notified the flight attendant that she might want to block off that
lavatory since it was not working. Shortly after that 3 other lavatories shut
down and there were only 2 on the airplane of almost 300 people.

I sat back in my seat and was about to go to sleep again and then captain of
the airplane comes over the intercom and says, "I have some bad news. We
will have to turn around and go back to Philadelphia because we cannot operate
this airplane with only 2 working lavatories. At this point we had to turn back
around and go back 2 hours to Philadelphia. Everyone was cursing on the airplane
and we had not eaten as of yet. We got back into Philadelphia close to 1am. The
mechanics come onto the airplane and fix the problem in less that 10 minutes. It turns
out that someone on the airplane put a few magazine sheets down the toilet! This in turn
clogged the vacuum that is used for the lavatories.

The captain comes on again, "I have more bad news. Your crew here on this flight will
need to be replaced since we will be illegal due to too much time flying." So then
we had to wait almost another 2 hours before the next crew got on the flight. The gate
agent comes on-board and talks on the intercom stating that people who have connections
should get off the airplane and we will rebook them right now. Now lucky for us the airport
was closed and there were no lines except for the people who were connecting. Luckily there
were not that many. I was one of those people. Now you know that most of the people on this
flight were heading back home to Spain. Well the employee of US Airways the LODO or
Language of Desination....since her crew got relieved she went home. There was no LODO to
help translate for the Spaniards for their connecting flights.

Well I wanted to hurry up and get the hell out of there. Thank god I have learned enough Spanish
to communicate well. I made myself useful and translated for the passengers that needed it.
Some of the passengers (Americans) were so angry they canceled their flight to Europe and went
home. After I was done translating the gate agent thanked me. He said since I had helped him
and that one seat opened up in business class he was going to give it to me. I also noticed in
my boarding pass his PHONE NUMBER! I thanked him for his kindness to upgrade me and
he said this was the least he could do and did not cost him anything to do it and thanked me
for saving the airline a lot of time for my translation services.

So we take off around 4am and get to Madrid around 2:30pm Spain time. Well I had missed
my connection and the next flight I was scheduled on was the 5:15pm flight. I was so incredibly
tired at this point. I get to the airplane and we take off and we land in Barcelona just after 6pm.
I go downstairs to baggage claim and I and the few other passengers that were on my original
flight we are all waiting for our bags. Well none of our bags came off the belt. The next flight
from MAD was going to be there in 20 minutes and the employees of the airport said for us to
wait that they should be on the belt. The next flight comes in....NO BAGS. Another flight
was to come in in 20 mins. We wait. NO BAGS.

At this point I am like great. I smell bad, I have no new clothes and I am dead tired. What else
can go wrong at this point? I go to the counter to give them my hotel information for my bags
and then I head off to the hotel.

When I finally get to the hotel around 8pm get checked in. for $200.00
I was not expecting that but that was a good gesture. I was actually kind of shocked they were giving
me this considering the clogged lavatory was not the airlines fault but a stupid passenger. I guess
they just want to keep the passengers happy.

So now I write to you from Barcelona airport on my way to Madrid. I hope this trip goes smooth. It can't
go bad it's only a 45 minute flight. But you never know what can happen I suppose.
 
When US won awards for its international business class and inflight magazines etc UA with all your experience was not even close and UA never is close when it comes to any major recognition domestic or international.. you have problems just that you have worked the art that WN has .. dont have diarehhea of the mouth when you have problems keep them to yourselves.. :up: :up: :up:
Care to post where and when U came ahead of UA in all these awards.

Actually NHBB, it wouldn't bother me in the least... I have seniority at both places and if we merge then my seniority would be 6 years greater.. So it wouldn't bother me in the least.

WELL my dear "beauty", it SHOULD bother you, because you/UAL don't want ANYTHING to do with LCC(the COMPANY...not the employees)

For one thing, a combined UAL/LCC would wind up with the likes of "Doug-weiser" running the show(THAT in itself is an Unimaginable thought, just ask the LCCers)

So as I see it(for what ever that means) you(UAL) have have "3" choices.
1. HOPE you can be bought out by DL(and In my opinion, if DL makes a move, it will be toward NW) !
2. HOPE UAL can convince CO to "meet you at the Alter"
And Finally,
3. Sh!tcan Tilton, and get on with finding someone to run UAL as a stand alone carrier,with the BEST route system of any USA carrier, world wide !

I doubt that UAL will be purchased by anyone, considering their earnings... If anything happens to UAL in my opinion it would be a merge or tilton will sell it off in pieces, the latter is highly doubtful though...... I love how everyone has a fantasy of UAL being something other than a standalone, one thing for sure, if UAL is merged with DAL or CAL, it will be one mean airline....
 
If Tilton can't find someone to merge with UAL, he will start selling pieces. The shortsighted focus on quick fixes for stock price bumps is not good for the long term health of the airline.

There are billions in venture capital out there, looking for a place to invest. It could happen to ANY airline, AA or UA included, regardless of your delusional opinion that UA's earnings would preclude a sale.

If UAL merges with DAL, prepare to have your AFA representation decertified, and you certainly won't find a Delta-UAL combo as "employee-friendly" as Delta itself is considered today by some.

StrAAight - its not easy, debating with someone who doesnt know what they are talking about. UAL has more f/as than DAL, and there are also DAL f/as who "were" Morris air and PanAm who would vote in a union in a heartbeat, so if you think a combined UAL/DAL merger would end up in a decert you are way off base, but hey, whats new??? Doesn't sound like much.... :lol: :lol: :lol: Also dont forget DAL may be an AFA carrier very soon if they know whats good for them.... Jealousy is bad strAAight, but i am used to people being jealousy of my beauty...

UAL and DAL have roughly equivalent numbers of flight attendants. If the numbers are within a few thousdands, the NMB will undoubtedly call for a representational election, and I'm not so sure that the Morris Air flight attendants are such a great group to pin your hopes on. The union at Southwest certainly didn't do anything for them. Many of the Pan Am flight attendants are nearing, or past, retirement age, and many may just not care.

If the Morris Air and Pan Am flight attendants are so gung-ho about going union, they would have already have a union, having convinced their coworkers to vote it in last time.

Personally, I wish that Delta had gone union long ago, but obviously, the majority over there like it the way it is.

How many f/a's do AA, DAL, UA have? A FEW THOUSAND will make an enormous difference in the results. Look at the presidential election. That one was only a few hundred. A UA/DAL combo would not make a decert if UA actually has 3,000 more f/a's. Anyone have the actual numbers? I know that before 2001 UA had over 27,000......that was then. I believe they have about 16 to 17,000 now.

I read somewhere that US only has about 7500. Is that true? I had no idea they were that small. Insignificant.

BTW, how many flight attendants does AA have currently?? I believe DAL will be hiring 1,000 and UAL scheduled to begin classes again in JAN..... My seniority is skyrocketing every year... How does it feel to be stagnant??? Oh I forget, you are one of the ones that would rather "stay around" versus retire... LAAA - DEEE - DAAA - DEEEE - DAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

United is sitting on it's own HUGE time bomb, you may want to shut your trap until you find out what is going to happen with them. Our seniority is not "skyrocketing", that only happens when people LEAVE. People leave because the jobs sucks OR they died from exhaustion. They hire to fill in the excess space those who expire leave behind. From the looks of that uniform, you should be next.

Well "FLY" - I would suggest you not tell me to shut my trap first off - next in line - I have moved up over 1500 people - in the last 2 years... I have my very first IBS and I also have my last one.. You must be in the stagnant haggard numbers that Straaight is in... Sucks to be you, but at least i have weekends and thanksgiving off... Do me a favor though, FLY somewhere and get a clue you stagnant bitter piece of space, Don't hate me because I am in a much better spot than you in a low life - low paying job that you hate... Personally i cant wait till they impose the minimum 65 hour rule so even more "trip droppers" will exit the building....
