US 735 PHL-LAS segment was diverted to MCI. Winds are not that strong that they needed to make a fuel stop. Fuel must be cheap at MCI today, Two-fur Tuesday!

Considering its a 757 I'm sure something was up. I don't think winds would slow that baby up unless it was REALLY, REALLY strong. As you said they're not so....hmmmmm They blocked into MCI at 8:30pm and were shown off the gate at 9:11pm.

I flew a PHL-LAS 757 segment about a year ago and an MEL item (I think it was a spoiler, but I don't really remember what it was) kept the airplane from operating at its normal takeoff gross weight. The flight was full, so the only way to get the takeoff weight down to the restricted number was to leave fuel off. We planned and executed a fuel stop in BNA. Those station folks had never seen a US Airways 757 there before; the station manager left a meeting to come out and make sure we got serviced promptly (and, I suspect, to see the airplane.) The did a fabulous job and turned the airplane in about 25 minutes landing to takeoff. The passengers were not happy about the whole thing, but we got to LAS less than an hour late anyway.

The point being: the 757 has no problems with a full load getting from PHL to LAS, unless of course an MEL item keeps it from operating at its normal gross weight. Then a fuel stop is almost inevitable.

It also could have been a medical since I have seen nothing else posted saying it was definatively an unscheduled fuel stop.

You're right.

There are various reasons why a B757 would have to make a fuel stop. This is just someone trying to find something to take hits at the airline again. Fuel pump mel's, altitude restrictions due to mx, the list goes on. A fuel stop is better than a cancellation.

Spoke with the MCI Mgr today. It was a medical diversion. Customer passed at the hospital. Son, wife, and 2 grandchildren were flying with her. Sad situation.

Thanks for the responses. May the person Rest in Peace. My Prayers go out to the family.
