US Air to benefit from M&A activity

I think a DL/NW merger will be the down fall of Delta. Should level the playing field 😀

We can easily adjust our present system to cover everything domestic ... once the pilot thing is worked out. As we tie the AW/US systems together the combinations (city pairs) are limitless. We can pick up assets as others divest. And keep adding international flying as it comes available.

I see very hard times a head for those that merge.

??? First of all, downfall is one word, not two. Secondly, you claim your present system can cover everything domestic, "once the pilot thing is worked out", easier said than done big shot, it's only been 2 1/2 years since the merger announcement and your no closer to a resolution on that front. And just how will you be flying all this additional international flying you speak of? Unless you've figured out how to pull widebodies out of your a$$, i'd say not anytime soon since LCC is presently strapped for widebodies. Lay off the NyQuil.

Well no, there is nothing similar between the DL/NW possible merger and the merger of PanAm and National other than it involves two U.S. airlines. All similarities end there.

If anything I would say the USAirways/America West merger would have more similarities with the PanAm/National merger.
Well as I wrote that I just knew that someone would have to disagree and btw the AWA/USA merger is nothing like National and Pan Am. I could pass on my opinion of AA with the TW buyout but I'll refrain.

Pan American World Airways... and National Airlines..(NEVER merged!) There were a lot of fantastically talented professionals at National, the cultures were just different... in the EXTEME!.)

(it was a FORCED attempt, Oil and Water just don't "merge", so much for the "legal" docs. It was one of the final nails in the coffins of Pan Am.). It was orchestrated by those whom received large payouts ....which will NOT happen at NWA...Mr. Steenland! Bank on it!

NORTHWEST AIRLINES...the most experienced American carrier (historically) in Asia... will NEVER disappear with out a FIGHT!!!!!!
!, n
We are confident, in our 65 years!!!, of commitment to Asia. BIG RED!, will NEVER surrender out valuable jewels with out, CONGRESS involved!

Buckle up!!!!

Knock yourself out. Your opinion of the AA buyout of TW could not possibly be any lower than mine.
Sorry wasn't meant to come out like that! I was thinking of 4 different things when I wrote that. My bad!

You have not managed to merge/combine one single unionized work force. For all practical purposes, there are still two separate airlines with one name. When is all this good stuff going to happen?

The Customer Service Work group is now one union CWA/IBT depending on where you work.
We are still basically two airlines in many ways. That lies squarely on management and has everything to do with $. Many think things have taken so long because current management doesnt know how to run the airline and are just shopping us around and with contracts not settled and everything else patched and taped together, the new owners would be able to decide what exactly they want to do with "it" without having to undue a lot of things that have never been done from 2005.

Agent, Pilot, Ramp...Flight Crew...should NEVER tolerate what has taken place.

"Stand up! Or shut up!"

America NEEDS to be taught a lesson.

The "FREE ride".....of a "Cheap flight" is OVER!

Wow! I'm catching the flack. I must be over the target. ...

Does anyone know how many trans-atlantic and trans-pacific destinations all the majors serve? I guess, what I'm wondering is how far behind is US?

US is very very far behind, with not much room for expansion. You can only justify so much out of PHL. You can't do the secondary European destinations NY can justify, and it could support two-three transpacific tops. Forget about South America.

Why? I'm positive I've heard Scott Kirby say South America is in our future. We've already applied to serve BOG.

Most South America destinations are restricted for one, and there just isn't a strong enough market out of the hubs. Other carriers struggle from much stronger hubs, so you really think Philly and North Carolina would support service to Argentina or Brazil?

With people connecting from NYC, Boston, NJ, etc..., not to mention the vacationers from the smaller markets I think they could fill 319s or 320s to various south american cities. Price is the number one factor for a lot of people and they will connect if the price is right.
