What's new

US Airways CEO faces cloudy skies in integrating airlines, building worker loyalty

..he has a track record with AWA and the employees of that company.

A history of not coming to the negotiating table when a contract becomes amendable. A history of paying his employees minimal wages so that they are on the payroll only for a few years; after all it is cheaper to train new employees than it is to have a workforce with longevity. What a history.

Doug Parker is just a man. Nothing more, nothing less.

No one needs to "Give Him a Chance"?

Bob, where are you coming from? He's the one asking us to give him a chance to earn our trust. Extolling your philosophy on how we should conduct ourselves is unwarranted.

whoa...whoa....you haven' been drinking the koolaid thats provided as a service by the "dougie cult" now have you?
we need to send you to advanced attitude correction.......

It really is all about YOU!

You decide if you're happy or sad at work.
You decide if the pay & benefits are acceptable
You decide if you want to look for another job
You decide if you want to go to night school to get an education that allows you to find a better job.
You decide if the new job offer is better.
You decide whether to take a new position.

Spot on!

Over 2 years in negociations - pay proposals that were a blank piece of paper - town halls that are full of half truths and spread more fertilizer than all of the farms in the valley. No pay increases for anyone, then they take huge stock options and raises for his inner circle. He has had his chance.

As I have said before I trust him as much as I do any of my ex-wives.

Hey guys, especially you eternal hateful ones....I think you should give the guy a chance before you judge him so quickly. He has a proven track record with America West and you never know who the next CEO will be. ]

Enjoy working under this guy while you can, because when the next guy steps in, you never know what you're going to get. We got stuck with Franke for 10 years.
Amen, UW. I like this guy (or girl)? he/she seems pretty level headed. I think some of us are showing our hind ends.

I'm just saying that in the end your happiness is on you. DP can't do a thing in that regard. Give him a chance to lead is fine. Just remember if you ain't the lead dog the view never changes.

Uhh...okay. Charming little idioms aside, I think you miss the possibility that happiness of employee groups has a lot to do with trusting management. If I personally have confidence in my leader(s), I will be a happier employee. If I don't, I won't.

Doug Parker can affect how happy employees are at US by being a model Boy Scout. Your suggestion that he can't is, in my opinion, short-sighted.

The lead dog idiom is simply a non-sequitur; again, simply my opinion.

Actually, I have a great idea all of the sudden: Hey, Doug! Why don't you rest up, come back to PIT and work with us for a week? I'll even give you a parka to wear while you work in the Arctic with us. It'll be a "Parker Parka." You can be one of the agents and figure out where we're coming from and what our issues are, especially the Express agents at PSA, who have never seen Keith Houk even once at the station. Besides, it's an easy step to take before you consider doing the same thing at a larger US East hub (say, for example, PHL) Want to earn trust and respect? Put yourself in our shoes for a week. I know I'd respect you more, and "I don't know" might become just a memorable phrase instead of a corporate mantra.
Every one of the folks from HO should involve themselves occasionally in the day to day running of an airline (can't believe they don't already). While reading these boards can give them a hint of what front line employees go through there is no substitution for being there. Any good leader knows that. Do managers/supervisors/officers all (or mostly) come from the ranks? If not, that's a mistake too.

Right, piss Doug off and he might leave and we could do worse than we ever have in the past. WEST- Franke EAST- Wolfe

Didn't we have a 25 page thread about what happens when they try to do that? HP trainers pitching in to help in PHL? With zero tolerance, nothing moves!

True. True.
So maybe go back to Prince of PAWOBs @ Dec 15 2005, 10:19 AM post, "come back to PIT and work with us for a week, [then] it's an easy step to take before you consider doing the same thing at a larger US East hub (say, for example, PHL)"

Maybe if it works somewhere else PHL will give it a chance?

boy...you just summed it up....

No surprises there. Some people refuse to work forward instead of backwards.

Many of the comments you are reading are from people that have been through this before. Many of them are listening to DP closer than you think. He has already had problems with communication and that is a MAJOR problem to be solved first, but instead it is a way of having a excuse for what happens.

He still has to EARN the respect of many people. Some people will just jump on the "band wagon" with him just because he is the CEO. Most will have a "wait and see" attitude. 🙂
