US AIRWAYS LOOKING FOR AIRBUS 340's

There is a seat layout for their proposed configuation of the 340-300 on page 56 of this document.

I don't know if anyone can tell where the crew quarters are, but as for as pax seating, it's pretty obvious they plan of 42 Envoy and 227 Coach.

If you take a close look at it you can tell it is the seat map from the original 330 configuration. They have a cabin divider between rows 1 & 2, and 2 rows of business behind 2L.

Another great job by the folk at Tempe!

Apparently the company has decided on NEW 340's , either modifying the existing 330 order or a new order . Finally a sound decision about these badly needed long haul aircraft.

Where did you hear this? Good news if true.

I thought the same exact thing that it was the original 330-300 layout from when they were delivered.

US Airways Plans Route
From Philadelphia To Beijing

US Airways announced that they will purchase A340 passenger aircraft to be used for a new route from Philadelphia to Beijing to be opened in 2009.
With approval from the U.S. Department of Transportation for this new route, US Airways said the new route will be the first to directly connect Philadelphia with the Middle Kingdom.
The DOT also approved American Airlines to open a route from Chicago to Beijing, and Continental Airlines to open a route from New York to Shanghai, as well as Northwest Airlines to open the route from Detroit to Shanghai. According to DOT's regulation, these new
routes are allowed to open in March 2009.
US Airways said that the company intends to change their previous order of A330 to buy A340 passenger aircraft, or directly place a new order. The new aircraft will be launched into the new route between Philadelphia and Beijing in 2009.

I don't know how credible China Hospitality News is. There certainly hasn't been an announcement by the company that it plans to amend the A330 order or place a new A340 order, and the publication doesn't cite a sourse within the company. I guess time will tell. If they do plan on getting new metal by next March, they'd better get on the ball.

Judging by the way they massacred our existing planes and botched the new ones, the idea of a Tempe ordered widebody is fascinating in the way a bloody car crash is... 800 people staring at a piece of paper taped to a bulkhead with a swoosh on it...
