US Airways Mechanic and Related Update

On November 16, 2005, US Airways CEO Doug Parker held a labor advisory meeting in Tempe, Arizona, to discuss the company’s financial status and their plans going forward to integrate the workgroups.

Parker said that the proving runs for the 757 ETOPS were on schedule and the Hawaii service will start on December 16, 2005. The combined company has already reduced the fleet by 45 aircraft and they will eliminate an additional 15 to 20 more aircraft. They do not anticipate any furloughs on US Airways or America West as a result of this reduction. The combined fleet after the reductions will be 355 aircraft.

CEO Parker had invited one member from each union representing members on US Airways and America West. Every unionized employee group from both carriers had a representative at this meeting except for the Teamster’s Andy Marshall.

Apparently, Andy wasn’t interested enough to come to the meeting to represent his members. The only IBT member attending was someone representing the C.S.A. members. Be assured that Bill Freiberger, mechanic and related, and Tom Mikelavic, fleet service, were there to represent the IAM membership.

Andy decided it was more important to fly to Pittsburgh to continue his vicious misinformation campaign to turn brother against brother in his self-serving and destructive raid to decertify the IAM.

“ASK ANDYâ€￾ what’s more important -- meeting with the company to learn what the future holds for our members or to use the opportunity to sneak into Pittsburgh to try to undermine solidarity.

Sincerely and fraternally,

I would like to know exactly which meeting you are talking about. Actually Doug had several meetings that day one in the morning and afternoon with the mechanics, and Andy was not allowed at that meeting per the company. They wanted it to be a conversation with the mechanics to openly voice our concerns and to hear what the company had to say. There was also no one below VP level in MX that was allowed in the meeting so that we could openly discuss the problems with middle management. Oh yes he had a meeting with the pilots in between that, which would not concern Andy at all. Then he had a meeting with is roundtable personal, am sure Andy was not invited to that one and would be surprised if the IAM was, would sound like some backdoor negotiating to me. So just because he was out getting cards to get rid of the IAM is such a bad thing I guess. And speaking of spreading bad information what about the IAM's meeting in Tempe a few weeks back. I was there all they had to say was a bunch of nothing. Supposedly have all these facts but were not willing to show us anything and then shut the meeting down when we tried to call them on it all. Did you see any Teamsters officials there harrasing the fellow members like the IAM has been doing in PHL and PIT when they tried to attend the Teamsters meetings? I believe we are all grown adults, if we can not go and hear what both sides have to say and make our own decisions on who should represent us than we deserve to fail. And where is the IAM's response to meeting with Andy to discuss/debate what is happening with the merger. He is willing and has publicly stated it. If the IAM is so great and superior, step up to the plate.

No layoffs planned? Might want to check with Dispatch East.

Who's your union at Dispatch East? :)

It seems that the IAM has reduced it's self to making accusations that Mr. Andy Marshall has no interest in the members. I think you find that to be very false statement. The very near future will prove that it is the IAM that has not cared about it's members.

They will have a voice. :)

Both offices TWU.

I was at both meetings the mechanics had with Doug and at both meetings the Teamsters were not invited. But much to our suprise at both meetings whe Al would mention the IAM he always used the term "WE". Kinda lets you know where his his head is at. Meetings behind our backs and the term we used multiple times.

Things that make you go Hmmmmm.

This is obviously a notice put out that was initiated by a deep fear. Pointing fingers and belittling others is the best thing these morons can accomplish. You have one Mr. Burnt Fried Burger and Antonio Alias Bubba Bambino watching your back side.

The IAM is very good at putting loud mouthed morons into leadership positions believing the intimation tactics of yesteryear are relevant today.

The IAM's track record should speak volumes to anyone able to swallow, a function not requiring conscious thought. These same morons want to do for you what they have already accomplished at other airlines, massive furloughs, benefit and pay cuts. Their legacy.

Anyone who would back these morons needs some serious counseling because they are living in an alternate reality. A reality where everything is so twisted, it makes your brain’s ability to see what is really there very difficult. But for the ones who can see them, they see a panel of morons making never ending promises and posting job classifieds on their web site for all the former membership they helped place in that position, unemployed.
