US & DL Asset Swap- (All Discussions Merged)

With their wet noodles?
I can't help but to notice that all you seem to post are a few short negative comments to whatever the post & subject may be about. Granted this company has it's issues, but are you really that bitter? Try to post some factual constructive stuff once in awhile instead of the one-liners...

I totally agree. US is about to post a profit for the first time in a long time in this poor economic time. Why does everyone bash the corporate guys all the time? Obviously they are doing something right. It is not so black and white to run a company this large in a volatile industry the way all the amateurs think it is. Why don't they go do it?

😛 I for one think going back to using those valuable and limited slots just to clog up the airways and runways at lga with dash 8's is a waste. Those slots need to be used by mainline aircraft to make the airport available to more flyers.
From what I understand, delta was going to use larger aircraft on the new routes and therefore move people and increase passenger totals.

Us needs to upgauge equipment to move more people and perhaps make money.

Just my thoughts

Im wondering if inthe meantime that the two airlines are battlingin court over the govt issues with this if the two airlines will quietly lease the gates as some have mentioned? If as someone suggest LGA is losing money station, how is it that other airlines tend to makle the dough if they are?

My guess is that instead of the swap, they do a lease-swap, wherein DL leases the LGA slots from US and vice versa for DCA. Nothing prevents them from doing that. Remember that NW owned most of the DCA slots that US used which they in turn got from EA.

That bolded portion is simply incorrect. It makes no difference to the government's objection to the US-DL slot deal whether US and DL agree to lease each other the slots or sell each other the slots. The concentration of market power is the objectionable characteristic - and it doesn't matter whether the slots are sold or leased - DL gets too many LGA slots and US gets too many DCA slots.

While I understand your post, the entire notion of who has too many gates/slots at any given airport is a bunch of bull. Does Delta have too may gates in ATL, DTW, MSP, and so on? AA too many in ORD and DFW? Having a dominant airline in any give city has been in place for many years already. It's not like those flying out of LGA & DCA won't have any choice of who to fly anymore than those using PHL or CLT will. While one airline may offer more choices, it isn't the only choice people have to choose from. There are many other monopolies in this country to be concerned with instead of the airlines. I have only one water, gas, and electric company to use and they raise their rates on a regular basis leaving me with nothing to do about it. There is WAY too much focus on the airline industry in this country along with the service they provide.

I love this one ..... did you know the original US Air, after merging with Piedmont Airlines and picking up Eastern routes flew 90 % mainline (large) aircraft in and out of LGA until Delta and rest bombard the airport with RJ's for the very reason you stated .... lol lol. I believe it was the Clinton administration that decide we owned to many slots and turned it into a free for all in-order to bust us up and create more competition

I totally agree. And the government ought to look in it's own backyard, as Amtrak could definitely use some competition.

Let me ask a question................ Does US make more money with a full DH8 with 50 customers or a A319 booked to 50?

A better, or at least as good a question might by why can't US carry more passengers to/from the largest market in the country.

We don't fly DH3's in and out of LGA. DH1's with 35 seats. You do have a point about load factors. But we have been told at PDT(EN) that we are just slot holders!?

Orig PI and US were successful with 737's and DC9's in the 80's, before Clinton lifted restrictions. The market was then split between to many carriers for anyone to make a profit with large aircraft. RJ's and a ATC night mare followed and infected the country's entire air travel system. Any flight that passed through LGA was subjected to daily ATC delays and that effect every other stop the plane made that day .... or it required massive turn time to be scheduled down line to return it to OT. Killed efficiencies.
