US & DL Asset Swap- (All Discussions Merged)

Yes UA does do that route for sure. US pulled out of the DCA ORD however, I think DCA MDW would have worked. I much prefer going into MDW....I am sure others do as well.
US tried the Midway operation off/on for years and it never added up to much. Same with Delta. See they switched the MDW-LGA to O'Hare. If all these people prefer Midway wonder why all the legacies REFUSE to operate there? <LOL> Southwest is entrenched at MDW and nowadays no one is going to operate into an airport under the auspices of "Serving the Consunmer" when in actuality it would be flooding the market with seats and giving the tickets AWAY at firesale prices. $29 fares are not profitable for anyone. The DCA-Chicago market is better served by STAR Partner United and let's leave it at that.

That's your opinion. I absolutely hate UA (and that's my opinion.)

US could turn LGA into a profit center if they would just use their mainline aircraft instead of flying all these express flights. I know UA flies LGA to ORD. US could do LGA to MDW. LGA to PBI. I am just pulling some cities out of my head that seem that they could possibly do well. I know so many folks that are from NY that live in PBI alone.

I think the F/A's have a clause in their contract that prohibits LGA-PBI. (Just kidding.) This city pair was operated for some time, and I think it did very well, but the F/A's thought this was the ultimate horror story as regards the passenger makeup. Rumor has it that three new-hire reserve F/A's flew their first LGA-PBI segment and all three quit on landing in PBI.

US used to do LGA-MSY, and the flights were always packed (I know, not necessarily profitable.) Then Katrina hit, and MSY closed for a while. US was the last carrier to resume service at MSY when the airport reopened. And the LGA-MSY route never reappeared.

US also ran LGA-BDA which WAS profitable (according to the company.) Then another hurricane shut down BDA for a while, and the company promised that once BDA could handle the flights, they would resume the service. This was at least four or fie years ago. Still no LGA-BDA.

And they ran LGA-NAS seasonally. It appeared successful. That left one spring, never to return.

I was told that there is no such thing as rj vs mainline slots. At LGA, a slot is a slot. It is up to the airline whether they assign an rj or a full-size a/c to the slot.

I'm not certain, but I think the only exception to that are 757 and heavier aircraft. When these are used, the arrival and departure rate is necessarily slowed due to wake turbulence restrictions, so I think the PANYNJ treats these slots differently.

What is the status of the US DELTA SLOT SWAP......Last I hear US was giving DL all these slots in LGA and DL was giving some to US in DCA, but recently it was announced that DL was going to fly 4 x a day STL DCA.

The deal is dead unless a judge overrules the DOT. This will likely drag on for years, so I wouldn't expect any news in the near future.

LGA-PBI  with such a FUN, Lovable (as in "I want to rip the head off my child's "build a Bear" Teddy just for fun) and respectful assemblage of folk? I would just as soon bid a line of flying doing Tel Aviv-Baghdad flights. If YOU never worked one of these flights and can't read between the lines YOU HAVE NO freakn' idea what those segments were like. What ever airline is serving that market......talk about chasing a dollar! I am NOT a fan of Florida by any means but LGA-PBI.........I'd rather gouge my eyes out. Horrible. (and unless You have personal experience working the route and dealing with the folk.........spare me your lectures, censure and holier than thou Politically Correct banter0. Period.

There was an old article from the USA Today years ago that mentioned the LGA-PBI flight. It was rated by EVERY airline that served the route as their worst followed by JFK-LAX. I'll admit that working any PBI flight is a bit easier today as you get a seat and a drink PERIOD. There are no meals (special meals) 😉 and no oxygen so it tends to go a bit smoother. Agreed though, the LGA-PBI flight was horrible to say the least and would have no desire to work it ever, EVER again.

I would think that any flight to PBI would be a nightmare to work. Maybe disciplinary action for FA's should require mandatory turns to and from PBI, with LGA-PBI being assigned for the most severe infractions?

Deal might have a second chance after all.

I also find it incredibly interesting that all UA and CO had to do to merge their entire operation was give up 36 "slots" to WN at EWR to get the deal approved, but the govt wanted US and DL to give up much more just for consolidation at two airports that have competition already and were going to have competition with the US and DL approved slots leases to other carriers. It just wasnt WN getting the slots. Wonder how many slots the govt wants for WN at these two airports to approve the deal.

Just ask SWA how many they want, and that is how many the government wants SWA to have. It's really quite simple. Obviously, SWA wanted 36 slots at EWR out of the CO/UA deal. And that, as they say, is that.

My question is???
Why would they allow this meager to take place ???
and then deny such a small transaction as the asset swap that we want w DL???

[/quote]Pittsburgh (pronounced /ˈpɪtsbərɡ/) is the second-largest city in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the county seat of Allegheny County. It is the largest city both in Appalachia,[7] and the Ohio Valley and it anchors the 22nd largest urban area in the United States.[8]
The 2009 estimated population of the city was 311,647,[9] while the seven-county metropolitan area was estimated at 2,354,957.[10] Downtown Pittsburgh retains substantial economic influence, ranking at 25th in the nation for jobs within the urban core (and is 6th in job density).[11]

There is a "small" difference. At EWR, the "new" UA will have no more slots than CO currently has so the merger will result in CO/UA having a smaller percentage of slots at EWR. With the DL/US slot deal, each would have more slots at one of the airports than before the deal so each would increase the advantage they already have at one of the airports respectively.
