I would like to hear what seniority system is preferred by those of you that work in CLT, PHL, BOS, LGA, and PIT. Those being the major cities in the east. For those of you in our other cities, your comments are welcome as well. Please give your reasons why you prefer whatever system you'd like it to be with the combined HP/US. Thank you.

This does not have to do with seniority but my 2 cents--get rid of outsourcing!! I for one would love to see HP/US ramp working our flights not FSS/DGS/Global...ect.

There are probably people out east with more time than HP has been in existence, what do you think they're going to say?

Why not ask in what direction the sun is going to rise tommorow...

LGA Fleet,

I asked the question because seeing as how our seniority system is all screwed up, I was wondering where the mindset of the ramp is now that we have a chance to straighten it out. In case you don't know what I'm taling about, the ramp has three different seniority systems that we go by.

1. Hire date for those hired before approximately 1980

2. Classification for those hired between approximately 1980 and 1996

3. Hire date for those hired from approximately 1996 to 2005

Now that I have somewhat clarified that, what system is preferred by the majority?

My vote would be for DOH. Same as upstairs, for that matter same as everywhere.

How does the seniority system work on the ramp with regards to who actually gets in the bin and does the work? Does everyone know eachother's DOH and that determines who the "bin b_tch" is? That's the way it was done at TWA with the guy at 20 years stacking bags while the guy with 30 years sat on the beltloader.

Before my Station was outsourced, we all took turns getting in the Bin regardless of who had more senoirity. We only put the Squeeze on those that made it evident that they didn't want to get in there. I for one preferred getting in there instead of
digging bags out of the cart to put on the belt. It never rains in there either!!!

There is nothing in the contract about seniority determing the job assignements. The ramp lead makes them.

I know from my friends on the ramp in CLT and personal observations that job assignments are rotated on a daily basis.

Same in PHL, it rotates belly/bags/door.

How about DOH with fences around PHX and LAS

Not a bad idea, but isn't the idea to simplify things? What system would the rest of the system use?

I don't have a dog in this fight (I'm over at NW), but over here, we have classifiation seniority. If you're currently PT, then that's the seniority you use. If you're FT, then you use that date, etc.

If you're displaced, you can bump anyone with less seniority (systemwide) in the classification you're bumping.

P.S. As for who gets in the bin, at my station, we employ the same system Wings396 did.

A BIG second on that. Seniority has nothing to do with it.

What do you die hard iam'ers that have sworn by classification seniority for all these years have to say?

Why is it that all other work groups at US go by Date of Hire, but the ramp doesn't? Does anyone know the reason for this?
