Considering the ramifications of our ill-planned invasion of Iraq, U.S. officials are willing to settle for any government that may bring security to the region.

"A workable democratic and sovereign government in Iraq was one of the Bush administration's stated goals of the war.

But for the first time, exasperated front-line U.S. generals talk openly of non-democratic governmental alternatives, and while the two top U.S. officials in Iraq still talk about preserving the country's nascent democratic institutions, they say their ambitions aren't as "lofty" as they once had been."

So, would the U.S. consider an Islamic State if it brought security???

U.S. officials rethink hopes for Iraq democracy

Would it really be that bad to allow a non-democratic government to develop in Iraq?

Historically, democracy in the Middle East has often produced undesired results for the U.S. Take, for example, the Palestinian Territories... Hamas receiving election gains. Or how about Egypt with the Muslim Brotherhood. Or Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Is this what you had in mind?

Of course thats what is going to happen now. Cheney said Iran would take a piece if Sadam were removed when he spoke about it back in 1994. What makes you think the out come will be any different now? He is the one running the show and the out come is exactly as he predicted. Why are you so bloody surprised?

No, it's not but W saw to it that we don't have a frigging choice in the matter. Cheney predicted this out come and he got his wish. W made our bed and now we have to lay in it.
