I thought I would have seen a mention of it on here somewhere but the anniversary came and went.

my thoughts and prayers are with their family and friends. May God rest their souls

It's very sad that we are so preoccupied wth current events. They are never forgotten, may God rest thier souls.

More "shade" than a willow tree covering that accident. But we "all" believe the magic bullet theory as well right?

anything definitive ever get released from the DOT yet? I mean, no other 737-300s have fallen from the sky lately... (that didn't run out of gas..)

I dont believe that any other 737-300 in the US has fallen from the skies since then but a few yrs after the accident a Silk Air, A Singaporean Low Cost Carrier fell out of the skies and that was a 733. not sure if it was ever solved. then there was a Metro Jet incident over Maryland due to rudder problems.

The NTSB report blamed the PCU of the rudder.

i think from the accident they came up with procedures to circumvent the yaw damper problem.like going from auto pilot to manual.....when it deflects.

I read the transcript. I am not a pilot but is it normal for the flight crew to be so unfocused during approch to an airport ? Seems like landing and air traffic were the last thing on their minds. I wonder if they had a near miss with the Jetstream ?

The Radar reports would have shown that. The 'traffic, traffic' warning, if it was real, is provided with ample time to make a correction, too. Plus, even with a near miss, the plane is well capable of performing evasive maneuvers when necessary.

The SilkAir accident was called an intentional pilot action by the NTSB although the Indonesian Authorities have not . Read it here
