Air Marshals Ground U.S. Airways Flight

POSTED: 6:35 am EDT June 13, 2005
UPDATED: 6:45 am EDT June 13, 2005

Federal air marshals grounded a U.S. Airways flight over the weekend.

It left Orlando on Sunday but was forced to land in Jacksonville, WESH 2 News reported.

Air marshals said they were uncomfortable with the actions of seven passengers in the first-class section of the jet, but they're not saying what those actions were.

There was an article a couple of days ago. I'll try to find it again, but this is my recollection....

The flight was MCO-DCA. Marshalls noticed several "foreign looking" passengers acting oddly, so the flight landed in JAX and the passengers in question were removed from the flight. Turns out that they were a group of military brass from some S American country going to Washington for meetings with their counterparts in the Pentagon.

Excerpt from the article:

"The men appeared to know each other and were gesturing to each other, a spokesman for the air marshal service said. After the marshal reported the behavior to the crew, the Boeing 727-4000 with more than 140 passengers was diverted to Jacksonville, Fla."

I don't think I've ever seen a 727-4000. Didn't know y'all were flying that model. Maybe I should have gone to JAX to take a look and have a drink with the Qatari's.

And I thought they were some of the Good Guys.

Wouldn't it have been a good idea for this info to have been given to the PIC and the AM's before pushback?

Interesting story despite the inaccuracies.

I haven't seen a 727-4000 either...my guess is 737-400.

At least the behavior was observed and acted upon...rather safe than sorry folks....

Qatar is in South Arabia

Think you're confusing it with Yemen. Oatar is actually a small peninsula that sticks out from the eastern side of the Arabian peninsula (Saudi Arabia) into the Persian Gulf, between the island nation of Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates.

I remember the F28-4000... but no 727-4000. 😉

Only 4 seats in the front of the F28, so no way it could have been one of those.

Man...I don't care how it is on rotation.........."I'm bidding it on the next bid"!!
