Company is planning to have EAST and WEST start swapping A/C on trips in SEPT 09

Well, absent a single pilot contract, that can't happen. And the way the company is dragging their feet and with the seniority list issue, it might be September, 2019, before that happens.
Yup. The TA specifically doesn't allow it. They would have to have a new contract with the pilots to permit it.

Why would it matter if an East A320 was used on a West A320 route to the pilots? If the swap is a one for one, why would this even be a point to argue over?

It doesn't - if we have a contract, with one seniority list. Otherwise management benefits from the associated synergies, while we continue to work under bankruptcy era pay and benefits. We would have a absurd scenario where the same A320 has different crew costs depending on whether it is being flown by an east or west crew.

I happen to be ready to swap metal three years ago, just pay me what I am entitled.

Just a reminder--please stay as close as possible to the original topic.

Any detailed discussion of contracts not pertaining to the specific issue of swapping aircraft should be conducted in the appropriate labor thread.

Thank you.

From an "operations" viewpoint, this makes a lot of sense. And it would be no problem for crews to swap from east to west metal and vice versa.

And this would be much more efficient for the company. As an aside, however, what, then, would be managements' motivation for EVER negotiating a joint contract?

But, there's that little matter of whipsaw. The company could do major harm to one side or the other with this empowerment. There is no way this would be done in a one-for-one fashion. It is nearly impossible to track with the amount of flying that goes on here.

And then there's this: you could bet that it wouldn't be long before the fists would be flying in the jetway of a flight where east and west crews are exchanging duties.

Yea, its that intense - with some folks.

I'm sure there are many other reasons why this would not be a viable situation. But for now, suffice to say, the TA prohibits this "interbreeding" until a joint contract is achieved.

Short answer: Management won't give equal pay for equal work because, Parker has said repeatedly, the disparity is the only lever he has to force us into a merged list and contract. In return, we will deny him the synergy to force him into bargaining in good faith and not dragging his heels in the process.

If this was true... why would they wait until sept 09?? they would just do it now? who told you this info? and on what basis?

Yea, I was told in training were not parking the 73's last year.

Who knows why these dudes do what they do---or when they do it----doesnt make any difference who told me---the class was just shaking our heads when we were told--this is almost a year off---too much time for stuff to happen to worry about this--- oo well
