When Is The Earliest Ua/amfa Can Strike ?

Ronin,

You kinda said it all.

Back to the topic. This is from AMFA. Just the short part.
_________________________________________________________
"Because the provisions of yesterday's 1113e ruling are temporary, we do not plan to pursue a strike or other form of self-help during this period," said AMFA National Director O.V. Delle-Femine. "With only four more months to work with and substantial remaining differences, however, we urge United negotiators to begin taking this process more seriously. From the moment United contacts us to arrange the next meeting, we will resume giving this process all the urgency and attention it deserves. It will be readily apparent in that first meeting whether the company is willing to do the same."
__________________________________________________________
As an AMFA member I strongly believe that the strike threat should remain. During this 4 month time AMFA should make sure a strike will be legal if the contract is abrogated. I keep reading that some say a strike is illegal and some say legal. If the Judge does abrogate the contract then I feel the only thing to do is strike. United is taking advantage of the BK laws to rape the employees of pay & benefits. ENOUGH is ENOUGH.

You would think that UA would have a plan besides the raping of employees. If that is the business plan then Tilton is paid 98% too much. Any idiot can do what he is doing. It takes a real business man to turn around a company. ENOUGH is ENOUGH.

Sorry but this is just wrong. And no I won't leave because I don't like it. I will leave when I am ready or UA folds.

I'm a wee bit confused. With todays "legal" actions by the judge, WHEN is the earliest that UA/AMFA can WALK ??

AND THEY "WILL" WALK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally, a union with GONADS.

My guess is once the judge says the contract is no longer in place and the company if free to impose new conditions.

I'll elaborate.

Let me begin by saying that I don't care if you kill the company or not. I just got a 5 year leave of abscence, and don't plan on coming back.

It's easy to vote to strike. I think it's natural and part of the negotiating process. However, actually walking out and shutting down the company is another issue. A lot of AMFA members have wives and kids and financial obligations, and I don't think they will be so quick to put themselves out of work.

The issue of whether a strike would be legal is a whole separate issue. UAL management seemed confident that a strike by AFA would have been illegal, so I can't see anything changing here.

So, rant and rave and bluster all you want, but just realize that that's what it is: bluster.

Then why are you here? If you truly didnt care then you would not be using your time here.

I just got a 5 year leave of abscence, and don't plan on coming back.

Why didnt you just sever ties completely?

I keep hearing of people taking LOAs but the thing is everyone I know who tried to get one was refused. Which airlines are giving LOAs?

A lot of AMFA members have wives and kids and financial obligations, and I don't think they will be so quick to put themselves out of work.

True enough but maybe a lot of those wives are saying "For that kind of money couldn't you get a job where you are home at night, on the weekends and Holidays?" Kids might be asking "Daddy when you leave the airlines will you be around more? Can we play ball on the weekend or can you come to my dance recital? Will you be home next Christmas morning?"

The issue of whether a strike would be legal is a whole separate issue.

No its not. There has been precidence set. If the contract is not in place the workers can use self help.

UAL management seemed confident that a strike by AFA would have been illegal, so I can't see anything changing here.

Perhaps what has not changed is the level of honesty that the company maintains with its workers. They were bluffing.

COSTS COSTS COSTS. And idiocrisy.

ALL OTHER UNIONS voted for their TAs. AMFA doesn't have a CBA to stand on.

9.8% is just the start.

Revenue revenue revenue. UA doesn't have it and you're going to strike?

Hey bozo, your union leaders and GlennJakeTiltonBrace along with the UA Board should be immediately removed by Judge Wedoff. None of those characters have inspired confidence or leadership. Reach down into the ranks for someone who is hungry for the opportunity to lead. You know who they are. Elevate and follow them.

Next, cut a deal with the PBGC. You both know this is inevitable, whether or not UA survives.

Lose Ted. Probably the whole DEN thing could go.

Fire any and all consultants on temporary contract. Probably the law firms too.

Each day have each employee contact one customer and schmooze. Kind of like that gimmick of wearing your watch on the opposite hand as a reminder of your mission. Use this opportunity to sell.

Find a sugardaddy overseas. Get an Asian airline to buy 24.9% of UA. Then just maybe you'll find another investor willing to invest because Lord knows the banks and feds won't. Despite what your management, consultants and union leaders told you.

Present a clear, simple value proposition. "Fly the friendly skies" or whatever. Frankly, I think you should bring back those ads featuring the employee testimonials. Especially the one with that crusty 747 captain. I want to fly with that guy!

Fire the advertising people who create all those silly pastel ads. Your product is perishable and you're competing on price.

Pay those travel agents something. They control your most lucrative customers.

Shall I go on? Oh yeah Ronin, one more thing --- if you don't like who is driving the bus then either get off the bus or get another busdriver. Simple enough for you?

I love this one:

United also received good news from the courts. A judge agreed to impose a temporary 9.8% pay cut on its mechanics in lieu of an agreement. Rank and file mechanics last week overwhelmingly voted against a proposal by United that would have imposed a 5% pay cut, benefit reductions, and some outsourcing. The deal was projected to save United nearly $100 million annually. But even without this agreement the temporary reduction will provide some relief through May 31. And the airline can use all the help it can get: Just last week United reported it lost $1.6 billion during 2004.

Paycuts are GOOD NEWS!

Well, let's see Bob. I post on the UAL board, I work for UAL, so UAL must be giving me a LOA. I have always had a passion for stock trading, so I am taking a position with a major investment firm. A 5 year LOA will allow me to keep my seniority, in case I choose to return part-time.

I spend time here because I get a kick out of associating with geniuses such as yourself.

I would like to know how you get to keep your seniority. The people I know that took LOA had their seniority adjusted. Or are you non union and got a special deal. 5 years is a long time.

Beginning or the end?
Do you believe that we will vote to accept something less than what was rejected?
Your management skills and business acumen speak highly of your position here at the 'LazyU' which may account for why we are here in BK for 26 months without a 'FREAKING PLAN'!!!

Are you one of the new VP's we've hired/promoted since BK?

You know we are up to 53 (I believe) from 45 'Executive Officers' before BK.
Management will have to make some big adjustments before you 'pick my pocket' again. What is "your" exit plan?

Da'Judge granted UAL a 4 month repreive and the AMFA NC will go back to the table to bring us something to vote yes on. Unfortunately they are wasting thier time but have to comply with legalities (IMHO).

Given that the AFA & ALPA has 'me too' (I'll only accept rape if everyone else bends over for the six foot schlong too) language in their newly accepted concessionary agreements, how will they handle our rejection?

Take Care,

Same with the flight attendants. Those who took the LOA get to keep complete seniority, flying privledges, AND medical benefits. Maybe AMFA didn't negotiate it, but ALPA and AFA did. (AFA LOA is only 4 years though, not 5)

Do you stop accruing seniority till you return? Maybe that is what was happening. I really didn't pay much attention to LOA since I didn't want one. Thinking real hard about it now.
