WN to cut PHL-PIT flights

It wouldn't surprise me...w/ the F/A agreement, they aren't making even the 30 bucks they used to on ID 90 but carrying a bunch of our employees for free with gas around 100 bucks a barrel. However, I agree with Prince, what better way to get to US than by cutting flights that allow their employees to get to work.....if this is true, I wonder if the those in Tempe will be smart enough to realize and put on more main line flights to compensate. Doubt it.

Are you KIDDING me?

Yeah, executives are sitting in Tempe and even Dallas making fleet and capacity decisions based on some old USAir trolly dollies going to work. You must be out of your mind.

Listen, this company, nor any other, gives a flying you-know-what whether or not you get to work. US Airways will staff their flights regardless, whether it's with you, me, a furloughee, or a new hire. In fact, given the option, they'd prefer the latter two. As`long as something with a pulse is there to satisfy FAA minimums they are good to go. Do yourself a favor and don't adopt the attitude that you are doing the company a favor embarking on a risky commute.

You might be joking, but there are F/As who go to Crew News sessions and tell our CEO they need to 'put bigger planes on PIT-PHL'... so non-revs can get on... hello! The fact that any flight attendant thinks they are important enough to make business decisions around is simply mind-blowing.

its going to be a nightmare in the WN gate areas with 20 - 30 PIT FA's trying to get home....

Thank you for saying exactly what I was thinking as I read through this topic.

It is simply amazing that crew members who have been around this long can really be victims of the "It's All About Me" syndrome.

Many hundreds before them have been faced with the challenges of their crew based being closed at this airline, its predecessors, and its competitors. The answer is simple. Life's not fair...never was...never will be. It is what it is and railing against it won't change a thing. Buck up and get yourself to work the best way you can. If your best doesn't work, change your situation, i.e. move or quit. It's that simple. It's been done by others hundreds of times before, and not one of them ever died over moving or quitting. One way or another, it's time to GET A LIFE and STOP YOUR WHINING!

Is this a total loss of 3 WN flights in PIT, then? Or does anyone know if they are adding 3 flights somewhere else to make up the difference?

This "rumor" came up a few months back.

WN then added PIT-PHL frequencies.

The gate agents at Southwest, much like the gate agents at US Airways, have no idea what the planning and marketing people are going to do before the schedule is released.

But let's play that out a bit: the primary carrier is cutting lift from a market whose O&D is actually growing, and people believe that Southwest is going to cut lift from PIT-PHL? I suppose it might (might!) hold water if you assume that WN is connecting a lot more people at BWI now. Absent that, the theory itself is stupid.

Since SWA has their schedules posted through some time in May, it is easy enough to check...
(Sorry about all the periods. It was the only way to hold the columns in place.)

PIT-PHL.............................................. PHL-PIT
Week of Dec 17-23
5 daily x 7.............................................3 daily x 7
1 M-F only.............................................1 M-F only
1 daily ex Sat........................................2 daily ex Sat
............................................................1 Sat only

Week of Jan 14-20
3 flights daily x 7....................................2 daily x 7
1 M-F only..............................................1 M-F only
1 daily ex Sat.........................................2 daily ex Sat
1 daily ex Sunday...................................1 daily ex Fri and Sat
..............................................................1 Sat only

Week of Feb 18-24
3 daily X 7..............................................2 daily x 7
1 M-F only...............................................2 M-F only
1 daily ex Sat..........................................2 daily ex Sat
1 daily ex Sun.........................................1 daily ex Sun
...............................................................1 Sat only
...............................................................1 Sun only

Total lift does seem to be reduced somewhat, but the proof is left to the student.

WN flights from PHL-PIT , alot of flyers stay on either to LAS or MDW. Some of the specials that WN run are oftenly not available on the nonstops.

BTW: The Flyers just beat the Penguins 8-2.

If you want to stifle the competition, what better way to do it than by making it difficult for their employees to commute?

Sounds like a genius move to me.

Hey genius, if they want to "stifle" the competition they wouldnt let the competition ride for free. SW has been fantastic to the employees of US.

Don't be hatin', Hawkhunter.

No one has said that WN hasn't been kind to US employees. I simply pointed out that it would be a genius move to do what I suggested in my post.

Maybe I never saw it, but I don't know how much US reciprocates toward WN. I doubt it's very much.

WN could become a very tough opponent very quickly if they chose to be. I'd pull up a chair to watch that prize fight.
