Until someone whose name is on the list complains then there really is nothing to discuss. So far that does not seem to be the case. I think there are better things to debate.
To me paying the IBT $350 more a year to administer the same agreement just doesnt make sense. If the IBT is where we are to end up why not just wait till they can earn the extra $350? Why not save the $1400 extra that we would be paying them till we can start section 6 openers?
I would be more concerned as to what the IBT is planning to do with us if we did end up there. Would they split us into all different Locals with an unelcted hierchy dictating everything? Would we all be put in one Local like UPS or split up like UAL? UAL is the more recent example, from what I've heard they have guys in SFO split between two unions. Apparently since the Local in LAX invested money in organizing the mechanics they get a share of the spoils. I have no desire to be the spoils of yet another Buisness Union and I certianly am not willing to spend an extra $350/year for that.
Yes there is no doubt about it, the 1200 IBT represented mechanics at UPS do very well compared to the rest of us, but the IBT did not even attempt to bring a similar deal back to CAL or UAL. They didnt even try and match what WN gets either, and they claim that they negotiated that deal as well. So its seems that the IBT does not feel that all mechanics are equal. They cut whatever deal is best for the IBT, splitting the same title group in one station between different locals is a perfect example of that. What they have done is a form of Bait and switch. "Look at what we have to offer(UPS), after you bite the hook they tell you what you are going to get (UAL, CAL at best).
In 2001 we all made around the same, even UPS. If they didnt even try at UAL and CAL to get them what they got UPS what makes anyone think that they will work wonders at AA, what makes us thinik they will even get us what UAL gets? I have yet to see them criticize the agreement we currently have, so what really are they offering us? If they had come out and at least said that they believe we all should be at UPS rates but competative issues within the passenger airline system make that unattainable at present due to American Airlines and USAIRWAYS super concessionary deals dragging everyone else down that would be one thing, (the IBT used to do that) but they didnt. To me this shows that they do not have a philosophical position on what an Aircraft Mechanic should be paid, nor are they on a mission to try and set a high standard across the industry. All I see is they want all our dues.Thats reason enough to reject their offer to allow us to pay them $350 more a year than we are already paying.
