Agreed. Wish the Moderators would start a thread just for the politics.

Unfortunately, politics and elections have a much bigger influence on contract negotiations than you may think with the IAM. It's difficult to seperate the two. The IAM leadership and the respective districts always have an eye on elections and politics while they're in the process of negotiating and endorsing contracts. On the other hand, the most recent contracts endorsed by the IAM at Boeing and UA, would seem to be political suicide.The results of the Grand Lodge elections in April and the District elections in June will shed more light on where the membership stands. As in any democratic process... the voters will decide. By July it will be brought to the light. Of course; conditions concerning the status of US contact negotiations could drastically change by then. Let's wait and see. Let's make decisions, based on the most current asessments and conditions. In conclusion though, politics must be considered from both the incumbents and the opposition candidates, concerning opinions on the best path forward for the membership.

So it is off shore. Speaks volumes when the unorganized AA agents answer calls in SRO (Dallas/Ft Worth) and SERO (Cary/Raleigh NC) along with home based agents. Yep it really pays to belong to the CWA.

The fact they're allowed up to 20% PT, is not concessionary?...The fact that these PT employees have medical coverage for themselves and not their family, is not concessionary?...The fact the when a PT employee bids and is awarded a FT position but only receive 70% of the seniority, is not concessionary?...The fact they can employ up to 10% of regular employees with temporary employees for up to 120 days, is not concessionary?...The fact that those temporary employees do not accrue seniority and do not get any other benefits, is not concessionary?......Should I go on?

So what is the part time cap for AA CSA and RES?

Don't change the subject. You said that Southwest doesn't have a concessionary contract.

You have a strange definition of concessionary.

What exactly is ect? The temporary employees with no benefits? Maybe the fact that the PTers don't get medical for their family?

Benefits? Only if you don't include the fact that part time employees don't get medical coverage for the family.

Work Rules? Maybe if the airline didn't have the ability to bring in temporary employees for 120 days at a time, while they receive NO benefits.

AA can do what ever they want to CSA and RES right?
 
DL has RR, those are temp workers, as does UA, what does AA have?

WN has the best contract in the industry in total compensation. Even though their people have never experienced what the rest of us went thru, their management still did right by those people. Now, seeing after all of the BK restructuring by everyone else like experiencing bad management decisions and concessions, now their employees are facing some hard choices because management will start putting the screws to them and WILL ask for concessions to stay "competitive". (love those words....... and you guys better get used to the buzzword "harmonize". I heard it all throughout our merger and it sucks)

What will they give up to stay "competitive" is the issue here.

Have they always had them? No.

If having those things they have in their deal isn't concessionary then the issue may be your definition. By your definition, if you lose certain Scope items it isn't a concession because other have lost the same thing? I'm sure that's not what you mean, right.

"Harmonize". That's a new one. Let me add that to the list that includes "we must stay competitive" and "synergies".

Is this thread now about Southwest? We spent months talking about UA, we may as well throw in some comparisons in with all the Carriers that are UNREPRESENTED!
 
I think that would be a better comparison... how about Union Workers vs. Non-Union Workers? To make it even more interesting, let’s go GLOBAL! Specifically, let’s compare ourselves to European Airline/Airport Workers, where there are little restrictions on striking, like the RLA here in the States!
