According to the union book (CWA) it's $8.72/hr to start.

Though you might be interested, San Francisco minimun wage as of 1/1/2007 will be $9.14, compare to working in Tempe.

$8.72 per hour. How can you live on that ?
hey, to some ppl, thats all they need. not everybody working in the airline industry has kids to feed and tons of bills to pay. (like me) 😉
to me, its just another part-time job while i go to school. the only thing keeping me in US Airways is the flight benefits, otherwise i wouldve been somewhere else making a bit more money.

Well let's see.. it's hard. I am looking for a part time job now as we speak. For a lot of people in Tempe, it's one of the largest employers in the area. What are you going to do? Be unemployed? At least you have the dignity of knowing you're contributing to society and not mooching off of them like some other people do..

I don't mean to sound trite, however if your circumstance permits it, get an education, post-secondary or learn a trade and steer clear of the customer service sector of the airline industry or for the most part in any industry. What has occurred in this area is the "Walmartization" of customer service. At one time customer service/ telephone sales skills was a valuable asset. As the corporate entity decided to take the path of least resistance to profitability( wage cuts,no pensions and outsourcing), the importance of loyal, dedicated and yes, educated customer service employees diminished.

If you find a career which compensates you well, then you can even buy an airline ticket for yourself, and you will have a confirmed seat!

I have an education. I am working on my second bachelor's degree. Thank you. 🙂

Anyone who really wanted to can ask me about my background. I spent 2001-2004 working for Anheuser-Busch in St. Louis. I made good money. I moved here and let's just say it's a joke here. 1 month contracts, 3 month contract galore. Nothing long term. I got tired of short term employment, not knowing what I was going to do one month down the line. I spent 1/2 the year looking for employment.. 1/2 working since 2004. Companies like IBM, Honeywell, Intel, etc.

When I learned that I had doorway into a company as an employee, hopefull a LONG TERM employee, I jumped! I am sacraficing pay, but I'm already being considered for my 2nd promotion in 7 months.

I am actually involved in the hospitality industry more than anything! I have to learn about hotels, destinations, tours, and know the clientelle that look for them!

Sure, if you're in it for just the money, fine. I look at the whole picture. If things nosedived and my pay got cut 1/2 or they started making me work 11pm-8am, I'd leave.. but I'm content with where I am and where I'm heading. I may be the CEO in 20 years! 🙂

Were you a teamster in the brewery?
Nope. I was a Network Administrator for the Productivity & Technology department. They are the ones who create new products and work on issues with existing ones. (Like total packaged oxygen, etc.) I worked with Ph. D's .. even my supervisor was a Ph. D. I felt ackward at times, yes.. but got along well with them.

Today's been a long day. I found out my best friend in Florida got hit be someone in the rear.. they were going 50mph. Also, found out one of my buds gave his 2 week notice. It's a shame.. makes me sad.
