777 engine fails, diverts to JFK

Princess, are there any ETOPS implications at this point with two failures so close to one another, or is the in-service reliability so good the two incidents have no real bearing on the issue?

Probably not. If the FAA still allows NWA to fly with all the inflight shutdowns they are having, I doubt seriously if they will pull the Trent's ETOPS certification.

66-67 DFW-ORD-DFW, isn't there for the "senior" ladies in DFW. The flight is insurance for the evening LHR-DEL departures out of ORD. The plane would otherwise sit in DFW, so they use it. Former Moderator, said at one time, that it was used around 30% of the time on ORD-LHR, instead of going back to DFW.

RES indicates 66/67 is cancelled on DFW/ORD/DFW because of tail 7BT out of service in LHR.

Well, I know that when I used to attend base meetings at DFW the PRIMARY topic of discussion each month was either getting the domestic 777 flying back from MIA/LAX/whoever had it that month or keeping the others from getting it. :lol:

And, are you saying that there is a change of equipment at ORD everyday? 66 is listed in RES as DFW-ORD and ORD-LHR--i.e., a continuation. And, if it doesn't operate DFW-ORD, what a/c do they use for ORD-LHR? Unless, they just didn't bother to do the ORD-DFW the previous day on flight 67.
 
I am saying that YES it is a different plane. Some days it is used for LHR or DEL. Other days, it turns around and goes back to DFW. It is used for insurance for the evening departures. I used to commute from DFW to ORD and DFW used to use the plane as well. I remember sitting in the B concourse waiting for the 777 and watching an F100 show up instead. They have enough 777's to run ORD's schedule, DFW-ORD-DFW 66 and 67, are continuation flights, just not always the same plane. Flights from PVG, NRT, LHR might have mechanicals or show up late. Thus the 777 from DFW is then used. Often when it is used, they either cancel or delay 67 back to DFW. So, if it doesn't fly up from DFW, nothing is cancelled. Flight 90, the morning flight to LHR from ORD is sometimes a continuation of the 6am flight from DFW. Currently I think it is a different flight number. In any event, the 6am DFW-ORD is/was never a 777. Even though it was the same flight number. Always a S-80. In the end, 66 and 67 from/to DFW aren't intended to continue to LHR, sometimes it does for operational needs.
 
Isn't all of the overhaul on the Trent outsourced? That would explain the shoddy workmanship.
 
The RR "TRENT" is a good engine, but it still has some problems that will show up time to time as the engines mature...

A/C 6308 left Dtw after overnight 1/4 A check. #2 engine lost all oil. Shut down and dumped fuel and landed in MSP. I believe this happened on Thursday July 27th.
