Where is the 321 usually operated? I've never seen one
in PHX or LAS. It seems like a slightly smaller version of the 757 although 26 F class seats seems like a lot for one f/a to contend with since you don't have extra staffing.

the 321 does run to lax and i think they run them to florida though not so sure about it

Ueast doesnt operate the 321 in the desert heat. There are some technical reasons for that, that maybe a pilot can answer for you. Our 321's are used almost everywhere except PHX/LAS.

The A321's do go to Florida, mostly MCO and TPA. The have gone to PHX, SAN, LAX, SFO, SEA,PHX,LAS and have been used to some Caribbean, but are not EOW Equipped (must stay within 162nm).

The A321 does not have much performance at high elevation, hot airports so they try not to use them in LAS.

USAirways scheduling of aircraft has always been a puzzle. An example is FLT91 PHL-SAN (A321) at 0930 departs full every day. In JAN it becomes a 0730 departure and loses 27 seats by downsizing to A320. Why?

In the days of numerous fleet types, USAir would take a flight operated by an MD-80 or B737 that went out full all the time and downsize to an F28 or F100. I never have been able to see where that was sensible. Do you think decisions like that have any bearing on why the company has been twice bankrupt?

There could be better routes for that time of year where an A321 could make more money. How many flights go out full that are then upgauged? Example SEA: Multiple A321s in the summer vs. only A319s/A320s in the winter with fewer frequencies. Also, how much of that A321 traffic consists of rock bottom fares?

A321 stations include LGA, CLT, PHL, PIT, DCA, BOS, LAX, SFO, SAN, PHX, MCO, TPA, PBI, FLL, JAX, BDL, MHT, BUF, FPO and DEN

One thing that I am still confused about....he whole idea of converting the 757's to "high density" configuration was to run them in the Florida markets and reduce F capacity which was primarily unused. Now we are flying ariplanes with 26 seats in F versus the 24 on the 757.

The 321 is currently being operated to PHX. I see it come in daily around 7pm.

From a f/a standpoint you can definately feel the agony in the a/c when completely full on take off. It feels as if it takes forever to get to 10,000 feet. It is an extremely comfortable a/c to ride on and row 21 is absolutely awesome for legroom. The 321 gets an extra f/a that is always on a seperate trip pairing. It's called the "F" position but essentially you are the "D". With a meal or 16 or more pax the "C" is technically to work up front to get the meal out then finish with duties in coach. I also heard from a pilot that the a/c when full and hitting strong headwinds to the west coast does not have all that much fuel to mess around with. The 321 makes it with little fuel to spare. It just feels that it's slow and underpowered.

When the A320-series was first announced, the 321 wasn't listed as having transcon range. It was an east coast to LAS/PHX range airplane while the 319/320 were transcon capable. Whether in response to the announcement of the 737NG series (all versions of which were advertised as transcon capable) or a modification for US, fuel capacity was added to enable transcon operation of the 321.

Just wanted to say that i enjoy reading your posts on aircraft specs. Keep up hte good effort 🙂

Unless you're really looking, the A321 looks remarkably like the B757. It has the same stretched profile.

The easiest give-aways:

---- Winglets on the Airbus.

---- Dual-truck main landing gear on the 757.

Just this past week I watched a ramper drag a 757 towbar up to the A321, much to her chagrin.

We still occasionally, but rarely, get stopped on the 757 line when parking, which makes jetway placement interesting.

And I've been told that on one occasion quite a while back, an agent actually ran the jetway up to the 2L door on the A321. I also heard Stephen Wolf was on that particular flight, so it must have been a few years ago.

Due to the fact that US will never use the 2L door on the 321 I'm surprised that we haven't put two seats there. I flew AA and sat at one of their 757's that had two seats right in front of their 2L door but not right up against it. I have seen some AA 757's with the 2L door used so I guess they have a few different configurations. I wonder if any airline that operates the 321 uses that door. It seems to be a really wasted space.

This happened just a few weeks ago in CLT. The agent was new and I guess she either thought it was a 757 or she thought, hey, it has a 2L door too, so what the hell.

It actually was nice, but DANGEROUSLY close to the engine. Needless to say, the jetway was moved back to 1L after the last pax left.

I like the A321 alot as a f/a. Just give me proper staffing. It NEEDS 2 f/a's in f/c with 16 or more pax, but leaving two f/a's for the back is tough.
