If I'm not mistaken, that is the way the A321 is designed. I think there could have been a smaller door, but my understanding is that we were to have some special jetway attachment for the A321 that didn't materialize...like the other 21 A330's. 😱Why have 2L door on the 321, if it cant be used for boarding?
The aircraft where AA uses the 2L door are probably ex TWA.Due to the fact that US will never use the 2L door on the 321 I'm surprised that we haven't put two seats there. I flew AA and sat at one of their 757's that had two seats right in front of their 2L door but not right up against it. I have seen some AA 757's with the 2L door used so I guess they have a few different configurations. I wonder if any airline that operates the 321 uses that door. It seems to be a really wasted space.

Unlike the 757 which has the slide pack attached to the door, the slide pack on the 321 is located in the overhead compartment, making it possible for the person sitting at the window to not have to sit sideways to be comfortable.
Also, US did use the 1L door for boarding the 757 when they first got them. I remember using 1L in CLT and at the old Iterim Terminal at DCA. All pictures of EAL 757's on a.net show them using 1L also.
