A321 Routes?

I'm coming out for the Insight bowl Dec. 27th and I'll be riding on a 321 that leaves from CLT at 8 AM. I guess this would be the one UWCactus is talking about.

Why have 2L door on the 321, if it cant be used for boarding?
If I'm not mistaken, that is the way the A321 is designed. I think there could have been a smaller door, but my understanding is that we were to have some special jetway attachment for the A321 that didn't materialize...like the other 21 A330's. 😱

The 2L door is too close to the port engine on the 321 to be used reliably without the possibility of an engine hit by the jetway. On the 757 there is more room, therefore it is possible to use the 2L door for boarding. I believe standard procedure in most airports is to use the 2L door.

I am not sure about the special jetway attachment, but is it also not possible that with special training, agents could be certified to bring the jetway to the 2L door?

even with special training, the A321 number one engine is too close of comfort to safely operate the jetway compared to the B-757

Due to the fact that US will never use the 2L door on the 321 I'm surprised that we haven't put two seats there. I flew AA and sat at one of their 757's that had two seats right in front of their 2L door but not right up against it. I have seen some AA 757's with the 2L door used so I guess they have a few different configurations. I wonder if any airline that operates the 321 uses that door. It seems to be a really wasted space.
The aircraft where AA uses the 2L door are probably ex TWA.
A friend of mine that works for AA said that Robert "Fang" Crandal used his influence to get the 2L/R doors on AA 75's declared emergency exit doors. So there are now two sets of 2 seaater seats at that location..There are 4 flight attendant jumpseats in the aft galley.

If you have not been on an HP 75, there is a set of 2 seats at 2R (row 9)

Unlike the 757 which has the slide pack attached to the door, the slide pack on the 321 is located in the overhead compartment, making it possible for the person sitting at the window to not have to sit sideways to be comfortable.

Also, US did use the 1L door for boarding the 757 when they first got them. I remember using 1L in CLT and at the old Iterim Terminal at DCA. All pictures of EAL 757's on a.net show them using 1L also.

Actually the slide packs are under the floor and come out underneath the 2L 2R 3L 3R doors from a hatch on the fuselage. There are no slides or rafts in the over head compartments on the airbus. There are no slide packs on the inside of the doors making more leg room.
