AA, with US management, is starting to act like a company looking to capitalize on current events. In a very small move to hopefully capitalize on things like sporting events is adding a one off PDX-LAX round trip. Leaves PDX December 31st and returns January 2nd. Any others out there that they may be trying? His also may be a good way to gauge if people would notice us in the market. Looking at the fares, they ain't cheap! Over $600 round trip.

Probably a safe bet; no shortage of U of O fans in PDX.

What sort of equipment are they using?

given it is a top market for AS, it is certain they aren't thrilled.

As I have repeatedly said, AA will decide that pursuing their own financial interests are more important than protecting their relationship with AS.

Championship sports flights always draw people willing to pay top dollar.

Well, duh.  AA would never try to compete with Great Delta.  So, it must be a move to run AS out of business.  One New Year's roundtrip should do it, don't you think?

The equipment is a 738, and it's already 78% booked.  Of course, DL would already be overbooked no doubt.

well duh.

LAX-PDX and LAX-SEA have long been two of the biggest markets from LAX that AA doesn't serve.

They are both top major AS markets.

AS has avoided them to be loyal to AS - unlike the ravaging, hypercompetitive DL.

And AA couldn't resist adding flights when a major sports championship is at stake.

btw, did you bother to look and see who mentioned DL in the thread?

let's see - mine was a joke

however didn't take long to smoke you out to trash a competitor now it's AS

maybe you should contact the moderators to have them lock this thread since it's clear DL didn't think of doing this

They are actually selling tickets up to PDX on the 31st and back to LAX on the 2nd. Both have reasonable loads, for being a one off and in the wrong direction from its intended purpose. Considering it is a route we don't fly at all. Yes, it is a 737-800 as well. They are charging a respectable $395 for the opposite direction. LAX-PDX 12/31-1/2

nope.

it is the same strategic challenge AA has had... loyalty to AS or growing on the west coast on AA's own.

One off flight or not, this is a key AS market and if AA didn't add service, even on a one time basis, AS would get the majority of the revenue because AS is the largest carrier in the market.

AA is putting its code on AS' SLC west flights for penance which allows DL to start more directly AA competitive service

right one flight of AA's is the same effect as the hub being built in SEA - how do you come up with this logic

I shoulda known better than to get excited about a thread involving both the world's greatest (and my hometown) airport & greatest football team...
Until the moderators eliminate the forum cancer that is "world traveler", unfortunately this will be the case with every thread, every time.
