Aal 738 Winglets

That was fast! I thought it was going to take longer for them to install the winglets. Lets hope this free set makes a difference and we start to see them on more 737's. By the way, anyone know when the first 757 comes online with winglets? Also how long is it going to take to do them all? Thanks in advance.

It only takes a couple days for installation on a 737NG. It's wing was designed for a winglet to be installed. 757's will take longer, several weeks, due to the fact that the 757 wing will require major structural work. I think the first 757 will debut by the end of the year.

There are clearance issues due to the increased wingspan, too.

According to one of the engineers, only the last 19 deliveries came with the "plug and play" fitting for the 737 winglets. The remainder will have to undergo a similar structural mod as the 757s.

As one of our B777's found out at LHR yesterday. A Turkish Airlines B737-800 taxied behind it whilst waiting to line up on the runway and put one of it's winglets through the elevator, then kept going to also damage the wingtip. You would have thought the Turkish pilot might have felt a bump and stopped after the first collision.

Aircraft currently in BA's hangar awaiting arrival of elevator.....

Correction....Apparently it may have been an A340......Not a 737.

AA will be collecting data from the one 737 to see if it will be feasible to retrofit the remainder of the 73 fleet. As for the 757, the 1st one is scheduled for 30 days so the mechanics can train on it then they hope to eventually get the installation down to 15-20 days, we are also hoping to become the leader in winglet retrofits.

I saw it in Miami. Here's a picture.

That didn't work.

Oh well.... 😉

I have been to Turkey (spent 15 months there) and have also flown THY. I sure know what you mean when you say "fly dolmush air".
Im on the 757 wing tip mod line here in tulsa, there giving us 35 days on the first one (its day 10 now and were on target for a 20 day first one) then thay want them in 19 days to beat timco( should be easy).

Lets try this picture thing again.
