Looking at leaving CLT on an America West Express flight. I went to the ETC to "check-in" and the origination city of CLT is not listed (the check-in time thing)...do we not need to check in by time or do they go by seniority? (preferably the latter) 🙂

America West Express does not operate out of CLT; that woudl be UsAirways (east) express, and that is done by seniority.

I guess the website is a little confusing..."Flight operated by Mesa Airlines doing business as America West Express" < SO, it is Mesa and not AWA.

Wow, that's one heck of an optical illusion out there on C-con every day. Someone better tell those folks on those ten or twelve gates that those planes aren't really there.

The flights are operated by Mesa, as USAirrways Express. They might say "America West Express", but Mesa can use whichever of their airplanes they wish. It is SOLD as USAirways Express. Of course, for the general public it doesnt' matter now. .but hte point is that the "old" HP did not operate at CLT--express or mainline.

But on usairways.com it does say the following for those CRJ900 flights:

Mesa Airlines Flight operated by Mesa Airlines doing business as America West Express

Flight operated by Republic Airways doing business as US Airways Express

So the Mesa flights are America West Express, and the Republic flights are US Airways Express. No wonder our customers are confused.

So, do I need to "check-in" 12 hrs in advance to list for the seats or is it seniority?? I'm confused now!

Isn't the rule, anything operated by or as America West is FCFS and anything operated by or as US Airways is seniority.

Pretty sure.

So, anyone else have any info? I will try to "check-in" via the ETC and see what it tells me. Yes, US-West is FCFS, whereas US-East is Seniority.....Just can't figure which process these flights out of CLT use: (Mesa DBA: America West)

Probably way too late to make any difference, but just rode one of these the first time today - went by DOH. I listed via the East voice response phone number walking from my connecting mainline flight and was the 1st non-rev to get a seat.

Jim

I've rode 'em quite a few times. it's done DOH. I believe the only reason they are Mesa/DBA America West is well, US dumped the mesa contract in BKII, and by doing it that way, they get around the J4J provisions that would have to apply to those airplanes. Supposedly currently in grievance...
