America West's Fleet Transition To Us Paint Scheme

If any former US management has anything to do with it, they will do what they did to the PI planes after the merge...Simply take off the PI name, slap on a US decal, with the outline of the PI name still showing on the fuselage. Classy.

Just so long as it's not yet another white livery!

UAL, DL, B6, & CO all look too much alike. It would be a mistake to simply follow the pack. From a marketing perspective, it's better to have a design that will deliver the image that the airline wants to convey and still stand out.

I think some of the livery choices are driven by the ease at which the planes can be repainted. It's much cheaper to scuff and shoot a new bottom color than to completely strip and repaint the entire airplane. Depending on the leases, painting can be either the lessors or operators responsibility. GECAS may design more paint schemes than anyone.

Heck when Wolf got out his palette, U had over 2 billion in cash, so why not dress it up a bit?

I like this personnally. It represents both companies with class.

I like this too, but you've got to get rid of the stiff and stodgy flag.

Basically take this scheme, but play up the AWA squigles in the aft.... integrating one with the main cheat line and then shading them up the tail in shades of lighter blue to red as you rise through the tail. UAL's new scheme uses this shading technique on their tail tulip.

The colors are good but the U tail doesn't work and the flag has GOT to go.

It's time to resurrect the TWA livery and replace the USAir flag with a globe.

You mean like this?

TWA/AA

Or this?

TWA/AA

Or maybe this?

TWA/AA757

Guess posters in glass houses should not throw stones.

Personally, I think the flag is the best thing about the logo. It says pretty clearly, "US Airways," and the flag and the color scheme deliver the message that were meant to be conveyed at the time - a business oriented airline with a national/international scope. If that's still what the merged airline is going to be, then that's what the new livery has to convey.

Too bad we fly the flag backwards on the right side of the tail.

I love the flag and the Darth Vader livery. Classy, elegant, businesslike, unique... it really stands out against the boring sea of white.

Although the current US livery is classy and stands out among the others it represents a person who brought much harm to this company. I don't think his legacy should live through our livery. The flag is fine for it represents the United States but the dark blue is too stiff and reminds me of that jerk that ran this place practically off a cliff.

It is my understanding the combined company will have a new aircraft livery/paint scheme and we can expect a formal announcement in the not-to-distant future.

Regards,

USA320Pilot

I just hope they use more vibrant, fresh and lively paint colors.

We were in Cleveland a few months ago and the paint jobs at the terminal looks so boring.

We felt like we were walking through a hospital.

I hope they consider refreshing the interiors too and make the seating common on the two fleets.

Let's standardize on the A330 seats. 😉

While the dark blue tops of the aircraft do give a look of class...the color does not tend to wear well...and it heat soaks the cabin unless its cooled from the jetway or the costly use of the APU's

The dark blue is also very prone to Jetway Rash...which no amount of dry washing or buffing ever seems to cure.

Next...the choice of the companies to perform the new U livery has been poor.and the paint never stands up for any length of time...the only thing the new paint scheme on any re-painted Boeing has out lasted is the stupidity of using decals instead of paint on the Star Alliance logos' that have blown apart all over the eastern seaboard.

The interiors all need to be leather...as U for now can not see fit to keep enough seat covers on hand to keep up positive appearances...at least leather can be cleaned on the spot in most cases.

I for one like the Flag on the tail...as it is distinctively U's trademark...but part of me opposes the alteration of the US flag...and another part of me opposes the commerialization of the prime symbol of the United States of America.

We need a new look...and something that promotes a classy image , durability , comfort...and easy to maintain to facilitate the previous needs listed.
