Unions are non profits and can’t just “skim some off the top” And if any of the rock throwers were smart enough (They’re not) they can just monitor the yearly LM2’s and monitor all the expenses.

Everyone should be doing this. Knowledge and agency are both good things.

P.S. Fair warning; the DOL website can be a PITA to navigate. Check it out anyway.

I did that just the other day and noticed that my Local 568 Presidents stipend went up from $17,000 the prior years to $31,000 last year. On top of his $70,000 salary he recieves from AA he seems to be suddenly rolling in dough.

I’m sure he has a reasonable explanation though?

I should also add I think it’s wonderful that Unions are forced by Laws to be as completely transparent as possible or their Elected Leaders face jail time BUT not exactly the same treatment for Politicians, CEO’s and all those other influential Wealthy manipulators out there.

I’d say that’s a nice fair level playing field huh Kev?

Clearly 🙄

But we've allowed that to happen, and it's up to us to change it. All the more reason to get involved, and get "learned up."

I hope that the younger Generation can accomplish those endeavors some day.

“Damn the Torpedoes”

I can say that in my experience, it's absolutely the younger generation leading the way.

Well they certainly are the “I want it now” Generation so I’m sure they’ll get it. I’m very very sure that they’ll get it alright.

Dude your link is in regards to the PBGC which is a US Government entity created FOR, and BY Corporate Lobbyist to dump their pension obligations into. The plan has always been for the US taxpayer to underwrite the Corporate f-ing of their workers, and then to claim insolvency later to get out of even that obligation!

The IAM pension is NOT part of the PBGC, the COMPANY has used this to screw you, not the union!
The IAM/TWU did not file BK, abrogate your contract, and dump your pension into the PBGC...

>SPIT<

It was created by Congress under Democratic majorities in the House and Senate, but it was mostly "Bi-Partisan".

Until I read what they agreed to in contractual language I’m not going to say what it’s going to be for a fact? But utilizing the word “may” does leave an open question and I don’t like open questions in my Employment agreements.

Ambiguity.
In regards to the 1600 “deadline” for CS.. that is subject to local rules that can make it less restrictive. That language is there simply so the Company CANT make it more restrictive than 1600. They couldn’t say you MUST have a CS in by 1400 ( as an example)

dude, i'm making my own contract. i go for smokes and coffee and bullshit with every csm.

i'll be putting in a cs 2 minutes after it started...and they will sign for it.

Actually, it all bean in the 60's with JFK attemting to shore-up poorly funded pensions in the automobile industry. In the 70's -- it evolved into the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 The ERISA was enacted in 1974 and signed into law by President Gerald Ford on September 2, 1974.

This was BEFORE the Corporate Lobbyist bribed decades of candidates, and administrations into allowing for Corporate BK laws that would take advantage of what they now saw as "legal loophole" out of their pension plans.

It started as Democratic bill to protect workers, and ended as a corporate loophole for BIG BUSINESS-- like the major Airlines!

Incidentally, the same corporate lobbyist that oversaw the PBGC loophole, also helped create the 401k plan to further screw the American Worker out of retirement!

ATD Local Restructure Update
Updated On: Oct 15, 2012

The negotiating committees for these agreements agreed to not retain (as a concession to the Company) the so-called “Baker Letter.” Under the Baker Letter, numerous Local officers and representatives performing Union work are paid by American Airlines. Effective December 1, 2012, with the elimination of the Baker Letter, these costs will be shifted to the M&R Locals, which will cause a significant increase in costs to these Locals.
