American Airlines and Labor Negotiations

Congratulations to the IAM today. Ride the momentum now.

“Anti-union ads, social media campaigns and a mea culpa from Boeing Co. executive Kevin McAllister weren't enough to sway flight line employees at the aerospace giant's North Charleston campus Thursday, as they voted for union representation in a big win for organized labor in the South.

Of the 169 flight line workers who cast ballots, 104 — or 61.5 percent — voted in favor of having the International Association of Machinists union represent them in collective bargaining.”

“They stood up to a Goliath of a company," said Mike Evans, the IAM's lead organizer. They were in a very nasty compaign where they attacked individuals. We stayed on course with education and opportunity and respect and dignity going forward, and here we are today with a win. We're very excited."

I wish one of them would have asked me.Oh well too late

Unions are non profits and can’t just “skim some off the top” And if any of the rock throwers were smart enough (They’re not) they can just monitor the yearly LM2’s and monitor all the expenses.
Yes my experience and history proves unions and their officials have always been above board

I did that just the other day and noticed that my Local 568 Presidents stipend went up from $17,000 the prior years to $31,000 last year. On top of his $70,000 salary he recieves from AA he seems to be suddenly rolling in dough.

I’m sure he has a reasonable explanation though?

He deserves every penny and its obvious he doesnt need you to buy his coffee

Actually, it all bean in the 60's with JFK attemting to shore-up poorly funded pensions in the automobile industry. In the 70's -- it evolved into the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 The ERISA was enacted in 1974 and signed into law by President Gerald Ford on September 2, 1974.

This was BEFORE the Corporate Lobbyist bribed decades of candidates, and administrations into allowing for Corporate BK laws that would take advantage of what they now saw as "legal loophole" out of their pension plans.

It started as Democratic bill to protect workers, and ended as a corporate loophole for BIG BUSINESS-- like the major Airlines!

Incidentally, the same corporate lobbyist that oversaw the PBGC loophole, also helped create the 401k plan to further screw the American Worker out of retirement!

>SPIT<

If it started as a Democratic bill to protect workers then hijacked by corporate lobbies why did the Democrats vote for it in the House and Senate?

Baker Letter

ATD Local Restructure Update
Updated On: Oct 15, 2012

The negotiating committees for these agreements agreed to not retain (as a concession to the Company) the so-called “Baker Letter.” Under the Baker Letter, numerous Local officers and representatives performing Union work are paid by American Airlines. Effective December 1, 2012, with the elimination of the Baker Letter, these costs will be shifted to the M&R Locals, which will cause a significant increase in costs to these Locals.

When the TWU received the “me too” 3% lowering of the 20% ask down to 17% in the BK. One of the things brought back was the Company continuing to have to pay the Local President his AA Salary rather than him being paid as UB.

One of his E Board told me yesterday that he bought himself this for Christmas. Nope Al he certainly doesn’t need me to buy him a coffee now does he.

Oh hey Al. So 3 days ago I requested to be added to the TWU Local 568 Facebook Group page and have so far been ignored? I think that might have been one of the very same issues that Tim was having with his IAM, equal access?
