The study that I was referring to was not just a “government” study but a TX Comptroler study. You know TX, the most liberal state in the union. Yes that Texas. The study concluded that the revenue generated from the immigrants far exceeded the cost and it did include education, health care as well as other costs. Part of this is due to the tax structure in TX. There is no state income tax, just consumer taxes which are more likely to collected by all consumers regardless of their immigration status.

There are 12 million illegals in a country of over 300 million. That amounts to less than 5% of the US population. Sorry but that is not the reason health care costs are sky rocketing.

Interesting idea but I do not see how it would work. There are tons of products used in the US by companies not based in the US and not manufactured here. That would put them at a huge advantage over US based companies. You are aware that you cannot dictate rules and laws on foreign based companies right? Lets take the airlines. There are two aircraft manufactures. Airbus is not going to open a plant in the US. They have no reason to. Are you saying no US carrier can buy a Airbus? Lets look at Apple. They are a US company. Samsung, LG, Sony to name a few are not. Do they need to open up US plants to sell products here in the US top sell their electronics in the US? How is Applpe supposed to compete with that? I guess selling Rolls Royce's, Ferrari’s, Audi's and a host of other cars cannot be sold here either. Do you think companies and governments will retaliate?

Another issue might be the internet. I can order crap from all over the world and have it delivered to my front door. You plan on creating a government entity to monitor all our mail to make sure no contraband gets through?

Investors are what drive profits. If investors do not get enough return (what ever they deem as enough) then they will put their money else where. It's that capitalism thing the right keeps talking about.

Make it a million dollars per a violation. I do not care what amount you make it. We agree that for a penalty to be effective it has to hurt. The reason the middle class is not as against immigration as you are is because most of the middle class realizes that with out immigrants their food as well as other consumer goods would increase in price and the US population will take cheap over anything else. We do not want to conserve, we do not look at the future, we look at the here and now.

Mexico cannot fix them selves. That much seems obvious. Either we help fix MX to help alleviate the influx of immigrants or we maintain the status quo and stop complaining.

Yes they are ideas. How about some practical ones that have been thought through?

How can you file taxes when you no social security number, green card, or work visa?

That is a good point. However, my state collects income tax. Maybe this would be a good start to put everyone on an even playing field.

That number means nothing it is only an estimate as illegals can not possibly be counted. Are the anchor babies counted in that total? You should also consider that illegals are far more concentrated in some places than others. Would you make that argument if you were going to a Miami, FL hospital for care?

Foreign based companies should start paying tariffs. Frankly most countries charge tariffs to protect their manufacturing base. That is the whole reason tariffs exist. It is high time the US did the same. Lets take the airlines... Airbus is in fact building a plant in Alabama (biggest aircraft order in history). Even if they were not going to an Airbus is hardly a consumer product. Consumers use it of course but your never going to buy an Airbus at Wal-Mart. Apple can compete because Apple is realizing ridiculous profits. As overpriced and marked up as most products are I doubt doing 35 percent of their manufacturing in the US would put much of a dent in their profit margin. Shipping would offset some of the cost of doing it local anyway. If you can afford a car like that then you can afford the tariffs. Most foreign manufactures today do a lot of their manufacturing and assembly in the United States (as I am sure shipping cars is a bit expensive). Do I think companies and countries will retaliate? Honestly I don't care. It is not anything different then what their companies or countries do to us. How can they complain when they do the SAME DAMN THING.

You sure could but shipping would discourage this. You could do that now but very few people do as the cost is not worth it.

Investments mean very little when you live in a country that allows B.S. bankruptcies and has a stacked stock market system. If you are talking about private investments in foreign companies... where would that be? The degrading EU? China who's boom is slowing down? How about lawless Mexico? Then you don't have the protections of the corporate owned US government. People invest here in America because that is where the money is.

That get's right back to the fact that most companies realize obscene profit margins today for consumer goods. Though a few fail because they do not stay with the times. Digital Media and internet have alot to do with current bankruptcies. I do not think food would go up much. Most of it is imported anyway. We give alot of it away to other countries for free (foreign aid). The government even pays farmers NOT to grow certain things to keep the prices up.

I have thought these through. If you can not see that illegal immigration (insourcing of low cost labor) and outsourcing to foreign countries (low cost labor) is nothing more than a way to bust the middle class as well as a forced move to globalization I don't know what to tell you. This path can only lead to one conclusion, a two class income system. A socialists (a nice word for communist) wet dream.

A great portion of the goods produced in China are done so for American companies (check your Nike label) so the greedy owners can make outrageous profits. The U.S. does not want fair and equitable trade because the corporations stand to loose billions.
Tariffs are imposed only on products from foreign companies (Kumo tires are Korean made in China for example)
The trade deficit exists because so many U.S. corporations are involved and are the ones who write the trade laws.

China charges tariffs on imports and subsidizes exports. They have made it clear that they will continue to do this in addition to manipulating their currency value to encourage Chinese exports. Every time an American buys a product that is made in China, they are voting for and supporting the Chinese government with their dollars.
I am stunned each time I see a suggestion that the US government should "do something". I don't need the damn government to tell me that it is my best interest to not do business with the communists. No American should have to be told what to do.
