American’s pilots take look at productivity

The big talk on the line is Preferential Bidding. I am hoping the pilots will get to vote on this as I am sure they will vote it down. That can only mean preferential bidding for the F/A's down the line. Yep, it is all about me.
I really think the pilots should be scheduled for more hours per month, therefore a need for less pilots, therefore less benefits to pay out, I also hear that Europe is looking at extending the pilot retirement age to 62 and if that happens the US will follow suit. I see no reson for the pilots to retire at age 60 when they are good for at least another 5 years. They are truly Princesses.
Has anyoine heard these same stories?

I am sorry, I should of said they are the true princesses. BUt please don't hold back.

AAstew,

I have a deal for you. Let's adjust your pay to equal the relative standing a 12 year AA pilot or Mechanic enjoys compared to the rest of the industry, LCC's included. That would only be "fair", right?

Another item would be inflight staffing. AA flys planes with the minimum required by the FAA. Let's knock all S80/737 staffing 3 FA's (already there) along with full 763/777 legs to 8. Sounds reasonable to me 😉

You might want to cover up the glare from your tiara. You're in a rough corporate neighborhood, and the pressure will be great considering the relatively little training it takes to become a FA. The pressure is bad enough on the pilots and mechanics even though it takes years to gain adequate experience to function on an acceptable level. In back it's a matter of weeks or even days. This isn't 1993, customer service will suffer, but with the current ranking, they might try to force min FAA staffing and work through a job action.

AAstew,

Even if it angers some of my fellow FA's, I'll have to agree with you, ER. AA FA's are still sittin' mighty pretty in both pay and work rules when compared to the rest of the industry. We've all taken our knocks, and we don't have to knock each other to prove our point.

Anyone is welcome to join me in the aisles of your local Home Depot if you want to see what reality is all about. I can't wait to get back to the current rates of pay and work rules.

You are what you negotiate. I personally think we could have been sitting a lot prettier than we are. I also think the pilot's union is being run by a bunch of fools to even start negotiating concessions. And whatever way they slice it, it's concessions. It also won't stop them if they come later on. It will just be something worse for them.

But, better them than us.

Where have you been? The staffing domestic will all be minimum crew starting this month.

AA will cut to minimum staffing on the 777 and the 767 if they could figure out how to cut their service levels and still keep the business and elite customers happy.

Why should other companies dictate what you make? That is a corporate snow job. It should be your bottom line that dictates pay and compensation at your company from the top tiers down.

As for knocking what I do, why don't you try it one day? Then maybe you can say something. Until that day.....

Skymess,

I thought the first part of your post was one of the most clear, concise and accurate posts I have read on these boards.

The second part leaves a lot to be desired. I'm aware of the domestic staffing reduction, I added on the widebody staffing as just another "opinion" like the first poster. You might also want to drop the "oversensitive" act. I simply stated a training fact regarding pilots/mechanics/FA's. Of the 3 positions, one takes a matter of days to be trained. The other two take years. (maybe months with a spare million)

I think I have a little knowledge about your job.

PS:Who watches your cats? 😀

The pilot's union didn't start the present concessions negotiations. The TWU has been talking "secretly" with AA management for months now. The TWU is always the first to give and does it willingly.

1st: I dislike cats, or any other animal that thinks it has a right to walk on my kitchen counters. I specifically hate the cat owners who tell you they are cleaner than you when you dare to complain about them walking on the counter.

2nd: Enough with the implications of how long it takes to train FA's. (which isn't days, BTW) I have had enough of people taking it upon themselves to think their job in particular is what makes this company what it is. You take any piece out of the pie and the system doesn't work. Get off your high horses and stop trying to belittle people, particularly those people whom (outside of the agents) have the most contact with the customers who pay for all of our salaries.

I'm talking to all mechanics and pilots, not just you.

"Meow"-It was a joke, one with a rewarding action from what I notice 😉

I still can't figure out what is belittling about stating facts on training time. For the FAA minimum standards, (leaving the dinner placement training days out), it could be "days". How long did the replacements train in 1993, 14 days? I've known guys with Phd's that were scumbags and those with zero education that were saints.

Spare me the indignation. You obviously didn't jump in when the second poster belittled another employee group with the "princess" slur, yet you jump right in with your imagination as I responded.

Sounds like the animal shelter wouldn't trust you with a kitten anyway. 😛

IIRC, Crandall obtained a waiver from the FAA to shorten the 1993 training to 8 days. B)

AAStew, who watches your cats when you're on a trip? B)
The only pussy cat I have I keep close to me.
I don't begrudge you your food and benefits you have kept. I think your union is assinine for what is doing. I stand by my thoughts that you need higher hour months and older retirements.

Edited to be less crude.
