Let's see how on the money they are.

WHAT'S AT STAKE: AMR is carrying heavy debt but still has to refresh its fleet, which has plenty of aging, inefficient MD-80-series jets. If it can string together several profitable quarters, that could also go a long way toward buying peace with its restless labor unions.

Quarterly report due out anyday. Other airlines are already reporting record profits for the quarter. Will AMR keep in pace with another lose and blame labor and fuel costs?

The AMR report is due out at 1pm today. Analyst predict 118m

143 Million.

Somebody in accounting is going to pay for this. Bring back that guy that knows how to hide money. Maybe they will just get bigger bonus. Don't sweat the small stuff.

While its an improvement, it is still lagging. USAIRWAYS just post a profit of 243 million, and it is only half the size of AMR (probably not even) , and they are profitable for the year. AMR still has lots of work to do to produce better profits and get CASM under control.

Don't worry, stock will be back down to under 6 by the end of the week.

Well hopefully it only gets better not worse, CAL posted a 354m profit today and UAL posted a 387m profit today, combined a 741m profit, not too shabby!

Reading this board could lead one to believe that AA's labor unions don't want piece. I think some of you like the strife just for the drama of it. Until that mentality changes you can count on AA's management to treat you like children. Because you're acting like it.

I hardly doubt it, AA unions gave up significant amounts to keep AA out of BK. Unfortunatley, it isn't enough. AA doesn't have the means to keep up with its peers, and will now have to face signifigant challenges. Most all carriers large and small are outperforming AA, and the mentality of "we will buy you" is now " who will buy us " ... I would say, AA should be putting together a stragey much stronger than what it has today, b/c what is now, will land it in BK, Very Very fast.

So you are admitting that AA management doesnt treat their employees like adults?

BK threat ZZZZZZZZZZ, ZZZZZZZZZZZZ, ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
A new plane every 8 days and they still are posting a profit this quarter. Give it a rest, nobody cares about the threats of BK anymore. We've heard it for seven years now. We want our money. All their organized workers are in negotiations, is anyone suprised that AA is claiming that they are struggling as the rake in $5 billion a quarter, fill 8 out of 10 seats on every flight and get a new plane every 8 days?

Is USAIR getting a new plane every 8 days? Are they building Taj Mahals across the country? Everywhere I look I see AA spending money. When I watch sports, "the AA Arena,,,", If I go to a play "The American Airlines Theater,,, . 25 years ago when I showed up at JFK they had a little grass and a few unkept shrubs in front of the hangar, now its a garden with sprinkers, flowers, pavers and some nice benches. Even has an awning like The Plaza" Hotel in Manhattan, sans the doorman(Wage expense). If stuff like that wasnt needed for the last 25 years why do they need to spend money on it now? That example is just to show how they are running out of ways to spend money. There are plenty more like new furniture, monitors , equipment, renovations etc. Flowers, sprinklers and an awning?? Really. How many ASMs will that generate?
