Another republican using a racist term

AHH The arrogance of Liberalism. Affirmative Action PROVES liberals don't think blacks are equal to whites. A law like AA implies by its very existence that White Liberals don't think blacks can "Cut It" without some type of "Help" from their holier than thou elitist perch.
So do you believe in Veteran preference for hiring?

What he does not understand or is unwilling to accept is that the Southern Democrats who defected to the Radical Republicans of the the time did so because they were unable to maintain their segregationist policies. The Southern Democrats did everything possible to thwart the Northern Democrats and Northern Republicans.

The names Republican and Democrat in today's vernacular have nothing to do with the use of the terms in the early 1960's and before.

Authors such as Kevin Williamson and others in the current day republican party have been trying to revise history to show that the republican party has been a long time friend of minorities. Given the GOP showing among non-white and younger voters it is no surprise that they are trying this.

Furthermore, regardless of what history shows, it is quite evident by the parties stances in todays world that if you are not a white affluent male, the GOP is n
ot interested in your rights, they want your vote but they are not interested in your rights.

But BaRack is for gay marr.......wait, no, he's against gay marri..................no,no, wait he's for it...............wait..................

OK, enough already ! We all know that BaRack does not condone gay marridge, Sorry but it's not something you change your mind on, on a dialy basis...............which only leave one thing..................votes ! Hypocrits !

Ah the ignorance of conservatism. Pass a law and all past wrongs vanish into thin air.

Are you of the belief that you can reverse the effects of Jim Crow, Separate but Equal, back of the bus, segregated schools, food counters, jobs, water fountains, slavery, lynchings, bigotry and hatred by just saying it's illegal?

DFW changed the posted speed limit on 360 from 65 to 60 about 10 plus years ago and do you think everyone drives 60? Seriously?

I am not saying AA was or is the right answer but so far every time this issue comes up and you trot out the same old argument you have yet to provide any idea as to how you would have leveled the playing field. So how do you reverse 300 some odd years of hatred and bias?

White male property owners have had affirmative action for centuries. They have pitched a fit every single time someone else was introduced into their once exclusive club. Sometime pay back is a b!tch and the pendulum swings too far in the other direction. Perhaps this would be something to keep in mind for the future.

I prefer to put my faith in people not government. Everyone has barriers to their success, some implemented by society, some by the individual. As the abject poverty & despair evident on the Lakota Reservation in Pine Ridge over the last 100 years I think the best remedy to the self reliance of those affected.

Dell....I readily admit that southern democrats were racists prior to 1964. Some even later. But the marjority of those southern racist democrats became southern racist republicans. And this is especially important - a lot of them made the switch in 1968 as part of Nixon's "southern strategy".

Well Tree....I was a victim of affirmative action, and I can't say that I agreed with it fully. Yes, a playing field needed to be leveled. But here's the thing...way back in the 1980's, I used to work for EDS. I did bank conversions, specializing in loans. A lot of S&L's were failing in Texas back then, and the Resolution Trust Corporation was looking for people to go into banks and - convert the loans that they wanted to keep. They were a federal agency, so the job was awarded on a point system. Were you a minority? 5 points. Were you a woman? 5 points. Were you a veteran? 5 points. Were you disabled? 5 points. So if I was going up a female black vet, she was a the starting line with 15 points to my zero. Then it came down to our resumes. If mine was awarded 15 points and hers 1 point, she got the job, even though my resume as "15 times" better than hers. What's a better way? I'd much prefer educational grants instead of putting someone ahead of a better qualified person based on a points system. And I'm a liberal.

I am under no illusion that the system we have in place is a good one. Grants are a good start but I think waif we really wanted to fix the problems we would have started with rebuilding the slums and inner cities. We would have made investments in the schools where were in those areas. Start job training. This are just a few things that would have helped equal the playing field and perhaps have prevented the cluster phuck we have now.

I do not envy your situation nor do I thinking is right. How ever if you take that same black female and put hr in KY or MS or AL or some other deep south state do you think she would get a fair shake in a majority of the cases? I do jot know but I doubt it.

Like I said I do not have a good idea of how to fix it but we brought it on our selves or rather we are paying for the sins of our forefathers.

That is freaking hilarious. As if people with no education, no money, no influence can effect change against a well organized public with a KKK to back them up with the dirty work.

Affirmative action broke the stigma of being born, living and dying on public assistance. Minorities had a chance to realize a gainful living and raise their children in a different environment and learn a different path and way of life instead of the ways of the ghetto.
However, lowering hiring standards, testing scores and other such 'adjustments' also lowered the quality of provided services and quality job opportunities.

The great social engineering experiment continues.....ala subsidies for votes...

They can when put into jobs they were never qualified for by a government in the interest of equality.

Like a congress person from certain districts. One from Houston comes to mind.

Lets not forget that you admitted you were a racist, so dems are still racist but try to hide that fact by pointing to repubs.

Hey, I'd help out my old friend Ms Tree in a heart beat.....

Barack Obama couldn’t have been clearer.

“I favor legalizing same-sex marriages, and would fight efforts to prohibit such marriages,” he said.

But he didn’t say this in the now-famous ABC White House interview Wednesday that has the national news media in a tizzy as they parrot his buzzword about his “evolution.”

Obama said it about 16 years ago, in writing, on a gay-publication questionnaire. At the time, in 1996, he was running for a state Senate seat in Chicago. The district was liberal. It was an easy stance to take.

But two years later, as he gazed at higher office, Obama began backing off that stance, the Washington Post notes in a good story today. By 2004, the then-U.S. Senate candidate abandoned using the word “marriage” but said he favored “civil unions.”

By the time he began running for president in 2008, Obama was against it.

Now he’s for it.

That’s not evolution. That’s a flip-flop-flip-flop. It's a reverse of a reversal.
