Any Co Plans For 175s 195s?

I know Gordo has delayed remaining 737 deliveries and 757s are in doubt, but I was wondering if CO was looking at the 70-90 seaters. I seem to be flying on a lot of packed RJs. Plus the schedule cutbacks (especially at Cleveland) make it difficult to reach a lot of business markets (even NYC) in time for a 9am or even a 10am meeting. An earlier first flight might not fill a 737 but it may fill a 70 seater. I remember Gordo saying somewhere that once a route supports the 145s that its not much of a jump to a 737-500, but that doesn't "feel" right.

Does CO have scope clauses issues to also deal with on this issue?

CO can't fill up a 737 for an early flight from CLE-LGA/EWR? I'll tell you why they can't, because Gordo thinks the business traveller will still drop $1100 for a coach seat! There are plenty of people from Cleveland who drive down to CAK to take the 7:45am CAK-LGA flight on AirTran. All the cars in the parking lot with Cuyahoga county plates confirm that. Walk up airfare is less than $200, one-way. I've flown them plenty since they started the service, and the 717's are nice planes. The service is simple, but you don't get anything more on CO! CO could put all the 175s they want on the route, but it doesn't address the fact that its still not a good value for a business traveller. And I've been a CO Elite member for 5 years (up to Plat in 2001/2002). I'll have no status at all on CO after this year...

I just saw the emb 170 at IAH on friday (10/17)
it is a sharp looking aircraft, it appears that EMB is approaching many of the major carriers with regards to the 170/190 it should be a strong seller.

Glancing at the schedules for Thursday, CO has a 6:40AM CLE-EWR, and two at 7:40AM to EWR and LGA, all of them some version of 737.

Maybe you were writing about some other city pairs?

Gordo has a good plan for getting 70-90 seaters. First going into this contract, he's going to buy off the CAL pilots with a decent increase in their retirement. In return he'll ask for relief from the 59+ seat scope, which is the only good feature of the Mainline Scope Clause. Since so many of the scabs are retiring in the next 5-10 years, they will jump at the opportunity, regardless of how it will screw everyone junior to him.

Then Gordo will ensure to give the 70-90 seat flying to Skywest, the newest non-union 'Connection' carrier, cause the Skywest pilots are willing to fly 70 seaters for 50 seater wages (they already do it for UAL). As a result Gordo will have his whipsaw against Xjet thus donking both the mainline pilots and the Xjet pilots. It's truely sad, but I have no doubt this is the planned scenario. Working Together, right..........
