Interested in hearing any educated guesses or actual figures on east f/a leaves.

What will be will be but one must have a back up plan. 🙄

I was wondering the same thing. I guess we'll know our fate after this week. Hopfully we'll find out on Friday but it might not be until Monday. Has anybody asked how many people have put in for it? I don't really know of anybody else who put in for it but I've spoken with people who say they know others who signed up for it.

Spoke with Council 70 today, as of last Friday, there were 130 who requested the VF. Displacements are going to be a big ??? AFA also believes if more than 150 request the leave then they will also likely be granted since the company didn't cut enough the first time around, and was also told another furlough is possible or even likely after this one.

Did they know how many put in for the 8 month furlough? Did all those people want 8 months off or did some of those people only want the 3 month furlough? To be honest, I would rather take a furlough and do something else for a while than be displaced and commute to an expensive base. They were only offering 150 and the company stated they were going to furlough 200. I wonder why they did that, maybe because they want to wait and furlough more people after Christmas since they will need extra coverage.

AFA doesn't have the breakdown of the 3 month vs. 8 month applicants, but suggested the 3 month was going more Senior than the 8 month. They suggested emailing Rick Carpenter to get more detailed information. Personally, a displacement for me will mean resigning from US Airways for good. I've made peace with it though. Unlike my first furlough, I feel like I am ready to give this place the closure that I needed upon returning. When I came back this past March after a 6 1/2 year furlough, I knew the airline (and the industry as a whole) had changed quite a bit. But I needed to come back and have the experience for myself. What I found was that although I don't dislike the job, the love and enthusiasm that I once had for it are not quite there the way it used to be. Coupled with permanently being the bottom of reserve, always quick-called, never a weekend or holiday off, struggling financially, unhappy employees and passengers, stagnant growth, dubious management, skyrocketing fuel costs, and always worrying about being displaced or losing my job... I just don't think I want to live this way anymore. I'm not the same wide-eyed new hire I was years ago. Not to mention the selling cokes, no IFE, no snacks, no pillows, no blankets, and just feeling like I am constantly facing incredulous passengers while being employed by the most despised airline in the world.

I'm not sorry I came back, I had to have this time to put it into perspective for myself, but I am finally really ok with shutting this door and putting it behind me.

And this time, now that I am finally ready to go, I actually may not be able to hold a furlough. Go figure. But either way, I've made my peace and am ready for the next chapter.
