APFA BOD is having an emergency meeting. Rumor has it that this meeting is over concern about the effects on APFA of several legal cases pending in Federal Court in Brooklyn. Any news?

Untrue. I had a base chair on my flight who was going to the meeting, and this Board meeting was called by some board members to address comments made by the treasurer in the recent Skyword newsletter. It is not an "emergency" meeting.

The Rumor I had been hearing on the line is that the court ruled in favor of the flight attendants in the lawsuit filed against the Company and the APFA reguarding the concessionary vote back in 2003. Does anyone have any info on this case?

For them to call an emergency meeting, she must have said something like "We don't care that you figured out that we aren't doing anything for your benefit here at Useless Blvd. You still have to pay your dues."

Rather than make guesses, I read the Skyword article (I had it in my tote bag) and it had something to do with the board turning down a corporate cell phone plan. No major deal there, as far as I am concerned.

I was told Ms. Lukensmeyer (sic) was taking A LOT of heat for talking about the cell phone plan. Apparantly, one Base Chair/Vice Chair has their whole family of 5 on their plan and WE are reimbursing the whole thing. So I get the impression that it isn't just one of them doing it. That is probably why it failed in the vote to change the plan.

That doesn't sound right to me. As the treasurer, Ms. Lukensmeyer would have the right to approve or disapprove expenditures, and if, in fact, one of the base chairs has her family of 5 on their plan, it would be up to her to deny the cost.

Personally, I think that sounds like galley urban legend.

Give a call and find out. She might be hamstrung by a loop hole in APFA policy. Hence the try to change it.

In fact, the BOD meeting was about two court cases.

MK

Wrong again. I just gave a call to my vice chairperson who was not in attendance, but who received a complete report on the BOD meeting last night from the chairperson.

The meeting was called due to the Skyword article. 10 board members called for it.

One more note...one of the base chairs proposed putting a spending cap on the cell phones at $200.00 and it was voted down. I think the union is paying for 66 cell phones. This is one of those issues that people out on the line don't hear much about but goes on all the time. We should be able to see how our base chairs voted and show our displeasure. This is how our dues money is spent. As far as the meeting being convened concerning the lawsuits..it sounds like wishful thinking.

I hate to say it but I will. This is the rule, not the exception re: BOD at APFA. There is a tremendous amount of time spent on the "power play" between the BOD and the National Officers..it can be painful to watch. Some of it is the nature of the beast, and some of it is BOD/National Officers "verbal masturbation" and all their "self impornatnce". Add in the "Shark vs Jets" political aspect that remains and its just like highschool.

It is what it is.........

Either way, we shouldn't be paying for sonny to call/text his friends. For that matter, we shouldn't be paying for our Base/Vice Chairs to call their significant others. That is why they should have their own cell pnones and different work phones.

Any news about what transpired during this meeting?

Just heard from one of the vice chairs it is still going on. Apparently they are wrapping it up, they passed several resolutions, and will have info in a little bit. I'm going to bed so will post tomorrow if nobody else does.
