I was told last week they are sitting in desert. Due to be painted and delivered end of march to Pit Mtx for final work.

The airplanes are in Nimes, France and will be ferried by our Check Airmen back here sometime next week.

B757-200 N642UW [30548, ex F-GRNG] Ferried SNN-PIT as USA9235
03Mar-2006. According to Malcolm Nason/SNN, the aircraft is still in
full Air Horizons livery.

B757-200 N643UW [30886, ex F-GRNI] awaiting ferry to USA.

B757-200 N644UW [30887, ex F-GRNJ] awaiting ferry to USA.

Acft 642 is in PIT Hangar 5 as of this time.

The seats are being removed so they can be sent to a 3rd party vendor as part of the standardizaton process.

The Acft will then be flown to Roswell NM to get the new US Livery applied..then it is rumored to be heading to BFM (ST Mobile Aerospace) to get a C-Check prior to joining the revenued fleet.

The 2 remaining Acft in France will follow suit in short order.

My knowledge of the aircraft overhaul process is limited but I would think it would make more sense to due the C check first then paint the aircraft ? I would think a brand new paint job would get some minor wear and tear on it during a heavy MTC check ? For the MTC proffessionals on here I will not be insulted in the least if I am wrong and you want to correct me !

LGA777 ,

What you are saying makes perfect sense in a perfect world...but this is far from a perfect world scenario at times.

Getting Acft scheduled for paint ..and scheduled for Maintenance doesn't always mesh the way we would like it to.

US nor HP Does it's own painting...and the B757-200 C-Checks and above are vendored out by contract...so in some cases you are at the mercy of the ability of the 3rd party vendors to take your work.

Keep in mind...these planes have been aquired within the last 90 days...and work regarding Heavy Checks of any kind is usually forecasted a year ahead of time. We are also not the 3rd Party Vendors only customers...So here lis the conflict of perfect world Vs. the world we live in.

I makes to much sense to do the "C" check in PIT while the seats are being removed. After all its in the contract that they can be vendor'd out to 3rd party. No need to worry about the fuel burn or the flt crew costs. They will send it to the paint shop and then when it gets to the vendor it will add to the fun of pulling all those freshly painted panels. If they are really lucky the screw heads will be filled with paint and when the panels are pulled strips of paint will be removed with the panels leaving primer. New planes always look good mixed with strips of green!!!

Just a thought.... 😛

Have the three new 757s been financed for purchase or leased? Anyone know?
