i fly over 250,000 miles/yr. i have been avoiding NWA flights for years because your dc9s and mesaba aircraft have the most uncomfortable seats in the industry. and yes, i have flown 1st class and appreciate your upgrade system although i have not flown 1st class international. i write this because as i read these posts i find an incredible nasty attitude towards other carriers. i find it sad that nwa employees can wish such ill will on other carriers' employees. it gives me another reason to keep flying on AA, UAL and Midwest. i am tempted to include nwa on the list of 2 other airlines that i will not let my family fly on.

Agreed. Those seats can suck. Just out of curiosity, what do you think of the other fleet types (A319/320, B757, 747, A330)?

I agree that those seats are horrible and I wish the economics of the industry were such that we could get rid of them. Pre-9/11 I had heard that this was being considered, but I have not heard anything about that since. I'm sorry that they keep you from flying NWA, but I understand completely.

While there are people at NWA who wish the other airlines ill, just as there are those at other airlines who wish NWA ill, I can tell you for certain that they are in the minority. I recently had an employee of another airline harangue me for half an hour because NWA did not follow the other carriers price increases, as if I, a mechanic, had any say in the matter. However, I know from experience that he is in the minority at his carrier as well.

Anyone who has been in this industry for a while comes to realize that we have more in common with the employees at the other airlines than we have differences. We deal with each other frequently, often on a daily basis, and I've always liked the fact that the competition between our carriers usually doesn't get in the way of helping each other when the need arises.

The vast majority of us watch what is happening at other carriers, and our own, with a great sadness, knowing that "There, but for the grace of God, go I". We have friends at other airlines and know their families and know that they are people just like us and know all too well the devastating effects of what they're going through. Many of us came from other airlines and have been through what these people are now going through. We have seen great names such as Pan Am, Eastern, TWA, and others, disappear and know that no one is immune.

I have said repeatedly in this forum that I wish the people at UAL or the other bankrupt carriers no ill, and I know that the majority of my fellow NWA employees feel the same. I hope that you will not let a vocal minority keep you from flying NWA.

"i write this because as i read these posts i find an incredible nasty attitude towards other carriers. i find it sad that nwa employees can wish such ill will on other carriers' employees. it gives me another reason to keep flying on AA, UAL and Midwest" Is that why every comment you have made on these boards about NWA has been negative?.]Please note a reference of NWA employees wishing ill on another carrier, not in response to an attack on NWA.[/B]. It is regretful that you feel that way. It has been a mission of some employees of the very carriers you have mentioned (prior to their financial ills) to demean, in the most pompous manner, NWA and it's employees. I find it sad that others have the need. and find it acceptable that NWA employees should meekly ignor their comments. There is not ONE instance ANYWHERE on this board where an NWA employee has instigated a negative comment about another carrier. it is clearly the opposit. We do our job well at NWA. Industry statistics seem to bear out the fact that we serve our customers well. KIOWA"how can any employee of nwa offer managment their pay when the company has squashed every rate increase the industry has proposed for the last several years. Incredible!" Your statement from an Oct. discussion indicates that you have harbored ill feelings towards NWA for sometime. Your displeasure is unfortunate, the majority of NWA employees are a wonderful, highly competent group. Frankly, I feel honored to work with them everyday.

Kiowa,
Why don't you just pick a topic and stick to it. Either you don't like the seats or you don't like the employees or both. You are right, some of the seats suck. My guess is you fly them when you can save a buck or have no other choice. But lumping in seat comfort with a slam on NWA employees is a real bait and switch.

Except for B6, who are still yet to be unionized, I think everyone is hoping the entire industry turns the corner and we can all have prosperous careers. I personally have several friends and UAL, F9, DAL and CAL and I wish them all well.

BTW, I'll take a seat on an NWA DC-9 over a UA Express RJ any day

cheers

NWA AMT-

Well said! As a fellow Red Tailer, I (and just about everyone else I work with) feel the same way.

Bigsky,

I agree. I'll take the DC-9 every time over an RJ, unfortunately the RJs have taken this industry over like cancer. I can't remember when NW did the big refurb on the DC-9 fleet, but the interiors seemed to be on par with most narrow body airlines. More importantly, the service levels at NW have always been top notch in my experiences.

Kiowa:

I believe even Northwest’s most ardent supporters would agree with you that the DC-9s can be uncomfortable, and that the airline has not always had the most stellar reputation for customer service. That being said, there are acceptable methods for bringing your concerns to the airline’s attention, but bashing NWA on a public forum is not one of them; it denigrates the hard work thousands of Northwest employees put in every day.

Next time you have a gripe, may I suggest visiting NWA’s website and leaving your comments there?

Ditto; This industry has enough cutthroats already. We have no control over which direction another airline is heading. We all share a common thread as working class people. So if any Ill will is to be wished upon anyone let it be upon the individuals who have created this atmosphere.Im sure we can think of plenty. 😉 😉 😉

If you notice "Kiowa" didn't tell us who he/she worked for...Wouldn't it be nice to see their company splaid open in a public forum and see how they appreciate it! Hey Ki, if you don't like the seats on the 9, well thats an honest opinion, but to then lamblast the whole employee group, well that just shows your immaturity and ignorance!

Wow, another one. Is this the general NWA attitude? Attack the passenger? My point was that your seats are some of the worst in the industry. -actually Mesaba is worse and CAL's rjs are also very poor.

No Ki that's not what you said...You 1st started out your comment by saying the seats were poor but then you went into an attack on NWA employees. Where you make the correlation I don't understand but you did. So please keep flying UA and AA, we don't want or need your sorry self!

no problem on my end. i guess that attitude permeates nwa more than i thought.

Dear Sir, please explain to us exactly how this statement relates to our poor seat quality? You used the quality of NWA's DC-9 seats as a sedgeway to demean ( generality) NWA employees. I am glad that you have found airlines that meet your standards of seat comfort and "general" pleasentness. Millions of passengeners from around the world might disagree with your general statement regarding the highly professional, caring, and inviting employees of NWA. Employees that launch over 1500 flights a day from Fargo to Rome, Mumbai to Anchorage. I highly doubt you will find much differenc in seat quality among the majors domestically. The LCCs are a different story...their seats are a marketing tool that helps them stay alive. Clearly, you have amneisia when it comes to the vorecious, negative, verbal comments made towards NWA and it's employees... prior to the downfall of almost all of it's competitors ....and yeah we still fly DC-9s....guess what? We're still standing, and paying our bills....ON TIME, just like we fly. Sincere wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your family!
