Bad station managers

A while back (too lazy to look for the thread) I started a discussion about good station managers. Sadly, it wound up being a rather short thread.

So, let's turn our attention to bad station managers (including dept. mgrs where applicable); there are so many of them. As fun and enlightening as it would be to include current managers, it's probably best to just discuss those who are no longer with the company. What I am really curious about is just how bad does a station manager have to be in order to get him/herself launched.

That having being said...

I know a station where YV has fired it's managers three times in a row...they are on their fourth manager right now...I wonder if she has been fired yet 🙂

Segment you know where I'm talking about and no it ain't PSP or SBA but close enough.

No matter how stupid or incompetent a current/former West manager is. They are not dumb enough to be fired.

In that case, it's not an "East/West" issue; East managers are very very rarely launched, hence my OP. Many years ago (some time in the '80's) there was a station manager in Ohio who finally lost his position for sleeping with too many female employees. According to the story he final undoing was after his wife showed up the station one day and caused a major scene in front of a bunch of employees.
 
I named an Express ramp manager in that previous thread who I used to believe was a great manager "hands down". Well, time seems to change people, and unfortunately he is no exception. The PSA management in PIT is now more interested in saving their own jobs and collecting their fat paychecks than keeping employees employed, let alone happy. I notice this type of behavior happens more often than not when people are placed in higher management jobs. They lose not only their way, but their spines as well.

Back in the day when I was in a similar level of job position, I fought for my employees and their needs with my superiors, because keeping my workers happy and employed made my little fiefdom a success. When I knew there was no hope for the company I worked for, which I've seen several times, I walked the walk, and walked right out the door while giving the finger and looking for something new to do. All but one of those companies is either out of business or dramatically changed and gutted by acqusition. The one exception is on it's way down, and of course there's US.

I'm no longer management, and I'm not as young as I used to be, but I will never forget how to walk the walk.
 
Yep its all part of the brother hood in PIT,when the question is asked ( what do we do ) the answer is just do this we will explain it later.
No forethought or planning,cause there just so far out of touch with the real issues. :down:
 
Don't know how it worked out west; back east bad managers get promoted - the crellin factor.

Speaking of PIT. How are things going? Is the ops center being built yet? Glad to see some West flying back in PIT. Love your airport and the people. We can only pray, mgmt will bring back more Mainline flying soon! :up:
