Candidates for Local 514 Officers Postitions have nothing to fear by placing their name on a blog at
www.change514.com , and although the domain name reflects change, incumbents are invited to participate in the communication advanced website.
Afterall, with thousands of business cards printed and ready to distribute directing members to the website, this could be a place for any candidate to score a few needed votes to win. What a great resource for a Candidate, business cards paid for and distributed to direct the voting members to a place to communicate. Can't beat that deal!
Anyone afraid of the website or open communications, is not likely a candidate that should be taken serious.
Bill...High Speed Steel...If you are running for Office, you are also invited. Those that favor and are involved in the "working together" program,
which Bill keeps claiming we all know nothing about, can surely spend the time to post their beliefs and happenings to educate those that may not be involved. Maybe there is a side to it opponents are missing. Well, then educate the members, don't just stand a complain they don't understand, or know what is going on behind closed doors. Open the damn doors and show everyone the facts if it so good!
It will be interesting to watch and see the reaction of the current leadership to this open communication link.
I think the website should also start either a "letters from the line" section, or even open a Line Mechanic blog to allow the brothers and sisters of Line Maintenance to express their opinions of Local 514 choices for Election of Officers. Afterall, we are all in this together. At least currently we are in it together that is, but I personally fear a seperation of labor agreements is in our future.
Good Luck to ALL who are willing to step forward and run for union office. Those of us that have been around know damn well that it is indeed a thankless job to say the least.
