The west CBA scope language is way inferior, the IAM CBA has been around since 1949, no way would the East want to fall under your CBA.
Get use to it, your not IBT anymore, you will fall under the IAM CBA.
The company does not want to negotiate just for the west, that was proven when they stopped your negotiations.
You answered your own "What leverage do you have" question.
The inferior west CBA scope language prevents the company from outsourcing any stations for which they own gates. The Freight work they perform also is guaranteed. The company is drooling to outsource these jobs. Ask PHX and LAS how many positions are unfilled on the ramp. The company could easily outsource the Class III stations and close Freight operations and say "Look what heroes we are, we saved the company by outsourcing and no one is loosing jobs to the street. Whomever does not want to relocate can make their own decision to quit." Isn't that how the company flushes out the high seniority while they are at it?
Conversely the company is considering the cost of the pay increases with the west transitioning to the east T/A. Also being considered is the full time/ part time ratio. The west currently has about a 70% part time ratio. Upgrading that many people to full time would be very costly. There is leverage to be found.
So, Mr. Negotiator! East can't enter into Section 6 for 2 years.
In the 141 Messenger Canale babbled about rah rah rah lets go get everything we lost back in negotiations with "Solidarity". Even you know that now if you read the 141 website update, I'm sorry I mean the Canale Concessionary Speach, Canale changes his tone to "Airline industry conditions, and the situation at US Airways in particular, have deteriorated in the last year, and those conditions could be even worse when traditional bargaining begins."
Canale makes the statement that continuing Section 6 for the West would be "fruitless and impractical".
With this in mind, Randy already knows that US Airways is going to be looking for more concessions. The thoughts of getting returns with the current President visionary of 141 is what is fruitless.
Why can we not continue Section 6 Negotiations with the West group. Ask your buddies with 142 how T/A negotiations have gone so far. Same as 141... IAM hands Company proposal. Company says NO. Company hands IAM their proposal. IAM says NO......so on and so on.
This has gone on for 2 years already. "2 years during good times we will never get back!"
Knowing this we can be assured that the company would not further negotiations with the west. Until they reach an impass! yada yada yada, then a cooling off period, yada yada yada, then presto!!! STRIKE. If it is initiated NOW, this could transpire about the same time the East enters into Section 6.
Are we not allowed to honor the picket line of our brothers per Article 2 C of th East agreement? Would this not further the company to negotiate a T/A more favorably at that point?
The question, 700, should be; where can the leverage be found and where are the the out of the box fresh thinkers that will effectively negotiate for us and bring an equitable T/A to our membership.
Maybe we will have that answer next month!!! We shall see.
