Christmas sick calls ?

I just want to know what finally did you in. I know the s8it keeps piling up, but I want to know what finally sent you over the edge?

I can actually feel your pain but I am not where you are. I still enjoy the job and can separate my angst at management from my job performance.

What was it, Bob? Fess up.

The non-support from Flight Service Management when something good or bad happens. No matter what happens during boarding or in-flight, it's always the flight attendants fault (no matter what). Weak union, with the last 2 APFA Presidents that are pro-compAAny and not pro-member. A union and most of its members with no ba**s.

I don't hate the actual job, I just hate the people who are KOOL-AAID drinkers, pro-compAAny and what has happened to our profession overall.

I am sure the loss of your employment services will be greatly mourned by AA and by your colleagues.

Do you think I really care how they feel? 🙄

Hey, B.O.B., don't go away mad. But it's OK by me if you simply go away.

Wow, this just goes to show you AA's company culture of pitting us against each other is alive and well. BOB was jsut stating what the majority of the f/a's won't say but a good number do.
Honestly, this is a public forum where one should be able to say what one is feeling or thinking without getting their ass nailed to a tree! There are alot of sanctimonious hypocrites on here. I will not name names.
You TWA'rs if and when you ever do get called back, let's see how you feel about our company culture and if you will be able to abide by their rules without bending them a little. ANd you naatives out there, give me a f#cking break, I fly with all of you, and some of you are silent about it, but we all have ways to work around the system.
I hope all of your New Year's are happy one! Incredible!

No, but they lost time with their family by being reassigned. I was just out at DFW to pick up my parking tag for next year. One of the flight service managers was telling me about having to meet an inbound a/c on Christmas morning and telling the junior member of the crew that she had been reassigned. That f/a missed her baby's first Christmas because of people like B.O.B. who have total disregard for their co-workers.

No, she missed it because she put the job ahead of spending the day with her baby. AA has over 80,000 employees and they are very quick to tell any one of them how unimportant they are and they should be thankful that AA lets them work there, especially at contract time.

Well, granted my 0600 flight LAS-STL on Christmas morning was sparse on passengers, but I suggest you check the load for Flt 2203 STL-DFW same day. Full 757. Also, check the load for flt 1074 that day for DFW-MCO. Again, full 757.

So you found 2 full trips, big deal and they were narrowbodies where they dont even serve pretzels.

F/As do not get paid extra for working extra hours. They just get paid for the hours they work, period. Sentence beginning with "So when people are ill..." makes no sense at all. Why would the fact that the company is short staffed make someone who is ill more or less likely to call in sick?

Simple, if they are fully staffed other workers can pick up the slack.

Again, what purpose is served other than screwing over your co-workers if you are not really sick?

Do you think that people call in sick purposely to screw other workers? If so, you are warped. If they are not sick but they call in its obvious that they have something else to do. I doubt that even those who abuse sick time do it to screw over other workers.

Well, I had oral surgery on 13DEC; so, I had to call in sick for my turn on the 14th. I did, however, work my 3-day beginning on the 17th. My sick call on the 14th was the first sick day I have used since 12APR2001.

Oral surgery? So it was a planned proceedure I guess? Why didnt you arrange to do it when you were not scheduled to work so you would not screw your fellow coworkers?

Leadership, effective or otherwise, has nothing to do with the unreasonable increase in sick calls on holidays. It has to do with lazy, inconsiderate f/as who hide behind the union to abuse their fellow f/as. When I was at Texaco, people were fired for always being sick during holiday periods. I'm not talking about once. But, when someone was sick the 3rd Christmas in a row, or the 5th July 4th in a row, or always when scheduled to work during Labor Day week, they were made available to the wider job market. There is a legal precedent in labor law for what is called patterns of behavior. You will not convince a court that it's just bad luck that you have been sick every Christmas since 1963.

1963? Well I'll admit that if someone was sick every Christmas for 42 years that he/she probably was not sick all of them. Union or not they would have a hard time defending that. However the odds are that at least some of the Holidays would have fallen on his/her days off. People are cyclical creatures and it is possible that people become ill at certain times. I remember as a kid it seemed that during many of the Holidays one of our Parents would end up staying home with one of us, we werent faking it, can you fake a fever, why would we when we were out of school anyway?

Leave him alone people, he is stating what you all are frekin doing, but being honest about it!
Bob, thanks for telling it like it is. I am not the biggest union person in the world but alot of these people are talking out of both sides of their mouth..ass?

Thanks for the voice of reason. People don't call in sick to screw their fellow workers they call in sick because they are either ill or they don't want to screw over their family members who come before their coworkers. To believe they call in just to screw with their coworkers IS pretty warped.

Yes, people are cyclically sick. I am sick now. I got sick a few days ago and I am on medication and feel like garbage. I got sick around the same time last year after returning home from my Christmas trip, and was really ill the year before that with the flu. I, however, don't have any trips to call in sick for because I paid someone to take my New Years trip so I could go somewhere. Looks like I am not going anywhere because I can feel the ear blockage and it is not abating with the augmentin, nose spray, and the sudafed. Oh well. How is that for irony?

Jimntx, you need to get a grip. Worry about yourself and not everyone else and you'll be a lot better off. You only have control over your own behavior and it will always be that way.

Thanks, we former TWAers had a little taste of AAs "corporate culture' and were not impressed, nor intimidated. We have always been masters at the bend..lol. Half of our workforce was forced to commute after our NY bas was closed, the SIA changed, and the "fence" tightened to strangle us in STL.

I used to have "heated" discussions with the training and transition mangt. because so many days were being added to our proposed training for corporate culture indoctrination. Wouldn't have worked then, and it certainly would be a waste of money now. We have NEVER wanted to have the AA reputation. There are many, many fine f/as at AA but the nickname was earned somehow and by someone(s). But that will have to be another discussion.

I personally think AA will do EVERYTHING possible to avoid a TWA recall, and with the continuing help of the APFA (with the LOAs), they may succeed. I cut my losses, (and 35 years), retired, and now enjoy holidays at home with my family. It is sort of strange not screening calls over Christmas.

Remember, the more of us (former TWA) recalled, the fewer of you will have to fly the holidays. This is another reason the APFA should "explore" 12 day spreads. Think of how senior reserve would have been in Dec.

Happy New Year!

Don't be fooled by my senior sounding rants. I'm very junior. I'm just a bit&hing veteran.

You should bid avbl on holiday months and you could get the days off too. 😉

Might as well bid it before they do away with it. That's probably next.
First off, I'm not the one who was upset about having to fly Christmas. In fact, I bid a line that had a trip over Christmas because I wanted time off earlier in the month to go skiing.

And, if you are in a base like SLT where almost nothing ever drops into open time except minimum time turns, you can not be assured of maxxing out before the end of the month. Availability may or may not be the solution.

Oh boo hoo hoo! The all-knowing, all-wise Skymess has called me warped. I guess I have to go out in the yard and eat a bug.

Hey, intentions don't count, actions do. It doesn't matter whether someone INTENDS to screw over their co-workers, but that is the result of their selfish, irresponsible actions.

I doubt there is a drunk driver out there who INTENDS to kill someone when they get behind the wheel of a car, but the end result is the same.

So you found 2 full trips, big deal and they were narrowbodies where they dont even serve pretzels.
Well, obviously you had the day off; otherwise, you would have seen the crowds in the airport in STL, DFW, and MCO. I don't think those airports were unique. A lot of people travel on Christmas now. But then, your mind is made up; so, won't waste any more time trying to discuss reality. You've got such a mad on at the company, reality has become unfamiliar territory to you.
Oral surgery? So it was a planned proceedure I guess? Why didnt you arrange to do it when you were not scheduled to work so you would not screw your fellow coworkers?
In case you haven't been to a Dr in a few years, the surgeon picks the day the surgery is done, not the patient.
It originally was scheduled for the week before, and the day was moved with about 30 hours notice. And, (you had better sit down, this is going to come as a shock) December 14th was not a holiday.

 Not quite getting it over here. Is that some southern thing? We just say what we mean in NY.

I'll just run with the all knowing and wise part. Sounds good to me.

Maybe you should have a drink or take one of those leftover pills from your oral surgery. You're kind of unravelling.

I've worked with guys who have spent the majority of their careers on ID. When you work in a small shop there is a lot of resentment.

If you want to be with your family and friends on the holiday instead of at work that is your decision. Having decided to come to work for an airline that is ... wait for it ..... it's comming .... open 365 days IN A ROW every year was a bit foolish on your part then don't you think? Or did you just think that AMR was not talking to you when they asked everyone if they were willing to work holidays, weekends and nights?

Jim already adressed the stupid "intention" statement so I will let that one go.

All of you above who are two faced idiots (Garf, Operaations, FA Mikey, miAAmi, etc...) Kiss my....

AA is a terrible airline to work for and most people have realized it. They don't care about anyone but senior management. Look what Arpey is getting, millions in stock options to stay until 2015. Do you idiots understand what this will be worth in 2015? Have you ever wondered why AA is called the SkynAAzis. No, you're to stupid to realize it.

I am planning on quiting as soon as all of my SK time is burned. I will not give back my SK tyime to this worthless compAAny, like all of you KOOL-AAID drinkers would. I am looking forward to not working for AA, it has been a waste of time.

GO USC!!!

Moderator, please shut my account down so I don't have to deal with these stupid pro-compAAny AA fools. Thank you.

I know BOB stands for "Buy On Board" but in your case I am pretty sure it just stands for "B!tch On Board"

Apparently you do not have the self control not to log on here since you have already made at least one post on this thread since you asked to be shut down.

I thought we got the SkyNazi reo=putaion becasue of hammer heads like your self.

As far as Arpeys stock options, if they are worth a fortune then in my book he deserves it because he was at the helm to pull us out of this mess. If this is such a terrible airline to work for then I guess AA will fail and his stock optins won't be worth the paper they were written on.

And BTW, don;t let the door hit in the A$$ on the way out.

If she need to be with her family on X-mass then she should choose a profession that allows her to be off on those days. Working for a Airline or any other industry that is open on the holidays would seem like poor decision making skills on her part.

A majorty of the flights are staffed at minimum crew. The only flights with extras are trans cons. The people who will pick up the slack for the folks like B.O.B are line holders who thought they were going home but were extended.

Like Jim said, don't care what their intent was. The end result is that the folks who show up for work like Jim, Mike and the rest have to pick up their slck and when I reassign them, the slacker who bombed in sick becasue they "had something better to do" will be of little consolation to Mike or Jim when I extend their 2 day into a 3 or 4 day trip.

I see the biggest Kool-AAid drinker is still alive and kicking it. Who's a$$ do you kiss down in DFW? You're truly a pathetic, a$$ kissing, kool-AAid drinking fool.
