FA Sick numbers

You want to cure this alleged sick time problem here is what you do......I know I will get attacked for this but it's ok I can take constructive and destructive criticism........ If you call in sick on a reserve month, any absence ( i know this is harsh) not just sick.....and I am talking any absense...... including FMLA, other leaves, union work, company work, and legitimate sicks ...that reserve month doesn't count. Much like when you bid onto reserve on a vacation month it doesn't count. Sure it is not fair to the legitimate sick calls, or legitimate FMLA. But, it sure would cure all the bogus FMLA stuff, and the bogus sick calls with the bogus doctor's notes, and the people who all of a sudden do union work on reserve months, or go work in the office ramping flights on reserve months or work in the sods office. The reserve list is artificially high to cover all those absences legit or otherwise....and call me a skeptic....but if you add up the real sick calls and the real FMLA......and compare them with the bogus sick calls and the bogus family leaves.....guess which side would win.......be honest with yourself.....you know the truth.

While I am hesitant to say that incentive programs don't work....because I do believe they do get some people not to call in sick. To say people are wrong to use it as unannounced day off with pay is wrong as well. If the Company sees it as a benefit ( and they clearly do because they cut sick accrual in the restructuring.) Then we have a right to look at sick time as nothing more than part of the overall benefit package. And yes, use it accordingly.

I do not think there is a court in the USA that would agree with you. You are recommending a sort of dishonesty, a kind of moral corruption of your peers many of whom function in highly appropriate ways with a well functioning conscience. Not so for you.

I would be very careful about suggesting this to people if I were you. Under labor law (and I don't mean just represented labor), there is a precedent in the courts that vacation is earned. Sick leave is granted. There is a small, but telling difference in the two. The courts have ruled (the precedent was used at my long-time employer to terminate someone) that use of sick leave for anything other than personal or immediate family illness can be grounds for termination. That's why you hear the term "abuse of sick leave", but you never hear of "abuse of vacation." 😀

The person who was terminated tried to use the argument, "I earned that sick leave. I can use it for anything I want to use it for." The court disagreed.

Surely you are talking out your AAss here. This is a silly thing to say in public forum! Can you imagine the galley talk tomorrow? NAME DEL BY MOD wants to disqual reserve if you call in sick!!! I imagine the company would heartily agree to this, but the lawsuits would start left and right! Can you imagine, " I am sorry you are having heart surgery... after you return please be prepared to serve reserve!"

I am PROUD of our State Legislature for acknowledging this issue and doing something about it..

Not to mention the absolute worst business climate in the country. Companies don't want to have anything to do with Calif.

My cousin owns an electrical contracting company in So Cal. The amount of time he spends working on onerous state legislation and employer law is staggering. He's having to turn away business because the amount of regulation prevents him from expanding.

My father owned a small business here for 40 years, in Berkeley no less. He put 3 kids through private college, owns a vacation home and golfs 3 times a week now. He made a very comfortable living owning and operating a small business here... Maybe you should have your cousin call my dad to see what hes doing wrong..?

I don't own a business here, but I work for a huge greedy one that does millions of dollars of business in California.
I appreciate the leverage this State offers me when needing time off and obtaining it from American Airlines..

Cause if "SkyhighSteve" is TRULY DEL BY MOD he just nailed his National Officer candidacy SHUT with these reserve/sick call remarks.

Im not trying to stir any pot over here, as I said before, Im just a lurker who enjoys reading here, not posting.

But if "SkyhighSteve" is in fact DEL BY MOD considering APFA's National Officer elections and his candidacy, then this needs to come out on the up and up.

Im just saying that I don't want DEL BY MOD, or ANY candidate, accused of posting something they in fact were not the true author of...

Can "SkyhighSteve" be verified and substantiated as DELETED BY MODERATOR?

This election is so very important to us FA's, and sifting thru the BS is a neccesity to cast an informed and intelligent vote.

I just want credible, and verifiable information. And I can't imagine, after reading here for a long time, that StrAAight Taalk OR AA Stew would put their posting credibility on the line for the grabs and giggles.

Honestly, just guessing, but as the APFA elections have rolled around, alot of Newbies have joined with much info concerning candidates. I may be talking out my AAss calling him DEL BY MOD ! :lol:

All's I wanted to know was if YOU and StrAAight TAAlk could substantiate that your reference to "SkyhighSteve" was in fact DELETED BY MODERATOR

That's why I attempted to give you and StrAAight Taalk the benefit of doubt regarding the authenticity of "SkyhighSteve' as being authored in actuality by DEL BY MOD.

I don't find anything about posting "out my AAss calling him DEL BY MOD :lol:" funny, sarcastic, or truthful at this point, considering the ramifications us FA's are facing while voting in a new slate of officers based on honesty and truthfulness coming from those running for National Officer, or as to their respected positions IF elected at the AMR negotiations table.

My bad....I thought I was reaching out to those to who exposed the TRUTH.

These BBs are so full of BS stuff you have to be very careful who you believe. Some are just not too honest and post to stir the pot.

The main culprit is L1011 himself. Have you seen WalMart about a job yet? Airlines of the past would love for you to post also... You know if you move to DFW you could also be one of the volunteers at the airport who direct peole to their gates....what do other old pilots do?

As fat as SkyHigh Steve, I think this was brought up by another poster because if you look at Skyhighs Posts and you look at the the unnamed person's website whom he is thought to be, the similarities and styles of writing are very similar, in fact almost exact. He (the poster who is to be unnamed) is the one who made the assertion that reserves should not count if you call in sick, this after he was identified as the person who is to remain unamed (in fact I think I will just call him Valdemort).....Look back on all of SkyHigh Steve's posts and figure it out for yourself. This would be an assinine thing to do if you are running for office....remember the Macacaw incident in Virginia? And yes there are alot of lurkers on here, I just met one at my crashpad who knew whom I was right away, but isn't it funny that they have decided to post now? (I think it is great but come on...)
