The Star Tribune is reporting today that McFarland is stating the strike isn't over.

The article states that AMFA's best hope is that NW can't find 1,080 replacements that would want to relocate to Detroit or Minneapolis nor work for a bankrupt carrier.

Seems that the only people who the article thinks would actually want to work for NW are the strikers???

Do you think NW will be able to attract 1,080 full time replacements fast enough to have them not have to negotiate?

I don’t know where the 1,080 come from but since I don't have another number I'll go with that. I know that the majority of the mechanics here are rolling over. I don't have any numbers that can be verified though. I can say this though if they do not do something about the working conditions here they are going to have a hard time recruiting directs. They had better come up with better answers than, "I don't know", when they are asked direct questions about the future employment of a contractor. I will say they are having a hard time making this place look attractive to the normal contractors. What I mean by that is most of the guys that are rolling over are X-AMT's from other airlines that have never contracted before. The contractors that have contracted for years are not impressed with the way things are run here. These guys are not suckered by management tactics and lies. Northwest is not accustomed to dealing with a large number of men on an individual level. If they want more contractors like myself to roll over they had better be prepared to write up individual contracts for each.

I think the 1080 is the number of mechanics the NWA airline had before they went on strike. I could be wrong but I think that is what they had prior to the strike

I think they might need 1080 more mechanics in addition to what they already have but that doesn't sound right either. I don't know the exact number of mechanics Northwest had before the strike but I am certain it was well over 2000. If someone has some actual numbers feel free to post them.

I just don't see how 1080 a/c mechanics can cover all the shifts at MSP, DTW, and MEM. That is really very small numbers of actual mechanics at work. 1080 total means that 360 are off on any give day(saying the work week is 5 on 2 off) and then split between just an am and pm shift means about 100 mechanics per city per shift so there certainly means that all hangar work is being sent down the road. Not good in my opinion.

GAME OVER!

Sounds like the Game is not quite over yet.

So how much does the BK NWA owe you PTO?

Has the hotel started asking for payment? Did you sign in at the Hotel? If so then YOU will be the one liable for payment for the bill if NWA decides not to pay.

Bad working condition? Unattractive place to work? Not impressed? Management tactics and lies?

Hey, at least you have the Winter to look forward to!

Individual contracts? Forget about it, do you think NWA is going to give you all individual contracts? Its easier to deal with a union, get it all done at once. Employment at will baby, you asked for it, you got it. "This is what we are offering" You have the right to quit and they have the right to fire, you will never get to negotiate your own deal.

I have had mixed conclusions on that one myself. The pitiful turn-out at the picket lines though and Northwests ability to replace mechanics that quit or were fired keeps me from changing my stance. Also the AMFA strikers inability to performe at the MRO's is a serious blackeye.

They haven't missed a check and they have all been correct.

The Raddison in Arizona tried to stiff me so when I got here I wouldn't give them a credit card. If they tell me to leave due to non payment it wont hurt my feelings. I'll simply go home.

Is there a ski resort arond here?

Yes Northwest has the option to say "this is what we have to offer you can take it or leave it". The mechanic has the same options. No union involvment needed.
